Why you CANNOT "do all things" through Christ as is written in Philippians 4:13. Is the verse wrong?

here's the rest of it:

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

I can overcome the world because He overcame the world.

It's about being victorious in Christ.

1 John 5:4 "For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith."

John 16:33 " “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

May we all learn the ways that Jesus used to "overcome" and then apply them in our own lives.

Jesus has defeated death for us. He has defeated sin for us. He has defeated evil for us. He has provided life for us.

We can do all things through Him that we could not do on our own.

amen. but the victory might be the completion of enduring a hardship.

The victory is of the soul, not the body. We will face many hardships in the body.

Jesus told us this life would be hard, very hard for those of us who choose to follow Him.

in other words, the hardship doesn't go anywhere, but through Christ we are strengthened to get thru it.

Yes, the Holy Spirit is our comforter and helper through the trials of this world.

There is a lot of "ungrasping" involved along the way. And every time we let go, we exercise faith and rely on His strength and not our own.

About the hardest thing to ungrasp is our expectations of Him. As I put it on another thread, "Will we follow a God who does not live up to our expectations?"

I don't often share personal experiences on GLP, but I think I will make an exception in this case. I want to describe a "thing" I was able to "do" through the strength of Christ.

The economy has been rough, especially in my business area. About two years ago my group realized that there was not going to be enough money to pay everyone's salary, so the decision was made to lay off one or two people. After much thought and prayer, I offered to continue to work full time but to be paid for only part of it, if it would avoid having to lay off anyone.

This was not an easy decision, and everyone thought I was crazy. Especially my management! But they finally agreed, and no one has been laid off yet.

I would have never said so at the time, because I was operating on intuition, and perhaps hearing the soft whisper of the Holy Spirit, but it was the wisest decision I've made in a long time... for many, many reasons.

Christ strengthened my resolve and gave me the courage to make this leap of faith.

I can do all things,.... Which must not be understood in the greatest latitude, and without any limitation; for the apostle was not omnipotent, either in himself, or by the power of Christ; nor could he do all things that Christ could do; but it must be restrained to the subject matter treated of: the sense is, that he could be content in every state, and could know how to behave himself in adversity and prosperity, amidst both poverty and plenty; yea, it may be extended to all the duties incumbent on him both as a Christian and as an apostle, as to exercise a conscience void of offence towards God and men; to take the care of all the churches; to labour more abundantly than others in preaching the Gospel; and to bear all afflictions, reproaches, and persecutions for the sake of it; yea, he could willingly and cheerfully endure the most cruel and torturing death for the sake of Christ: all these things he could do, not in his own strength, for no man was more conscious of his own weakness than he was, or knew more of the impotency of human nature; and therefore always directed others to be strong in the Lord, and in, the power of his might, and in the grace that is in Christ, on which he himself always depended, and by which he did what he did; as he adds here,

Reflecting some more on the topic. Far from my "doing" anything to affect the outcome, it's more like a surrendering of the outcome to God. A by-product of faith. A faith that is a natural fruit of a close relationship.

I wish more could experience it.

Thanksgiving

2 Corinthians 12:9 "But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

This scripture really encouraged me today. It is only when we truly give up ourselves and our will, then He steps in and His glory is manifested.
