So, how can you be sure that the truth you hold, is the actual truth? And don't say "the bible" since that's had WAY too many human hands meddling in it over the years. |

Because to do otherwise would have made me a rude, self righteous, arrogant and unwelcome TWIT to the other members of my family and friend who were celebrating! And that is exactly the same reason I participate in activities here in America, because even though I am non-religious the people around me are not and I am simply not the "OF MYSELF" to lay that kind if trip on them. I also enjoy seeing then very much. |

Hisbirthday should be in aug. or sept. i believe. dec 21 is a pagan holiday. they just changed the dates to keep everybody calm and more manageable. besides its just a commercialized way for people to celebrate giving and going broke again. another way to keep the money in the pockets of the rich. although i enjoy christmas, it is not jesus b.d. this place is my home, my mind still runs free, the DR's prescription, less for you and more for me. |

Totally serious question... Quoting: LoneSurviver You call it Christmas... We call it "winter solstice." Yes. I celebrate halloween also - not because I feel evil spirits need chasing, but in observation of the tradition. One need not believe in the basis of something to celebrate it. Hipocracy isn't a problem unless you want to stand on a soapbox. Well it does seem hypocritical...you proclaim your lack of belief in God, but celebrate a proclaimed religious holiday? Doesnt make sense, why celebrate it based on a Christian tradition you dont believe in? I think your calling of hypocrisy is simply wrong! Your ignorance on the history of December 25 is lamentable OP. You celebrate Christmas as the birth time of Jesus when we all know that is wrong. Jesus wasn't born on December 25! Why do you celebrate a falsehood and call it Christian? Why do you teach this falsehood as fact to children? When Jesus said Luke 6:41 And why behold you the speck that is in your brother's eye, but perceive not the beam that is in your own eye? isn't this the exact thing he was talking about? Why do you call others hypocrites when you are celebrating a falsehood? Is Christianity a religion of honesty? By celebrating Jesus' birthday on Dec 25 it would appear not! It is a false teaching that lies to children, isn't it? I wouldn't throw the hypocrisy word around without looking at your beliefs first! Something to think about. |

Quoting: LoneSurviver Well it does seem hypocritical...you proclaim your lack of belief in God, but celebrate a proclaimed religious holiday? Doesnt make sense, why celebrate it based on a Christian tradition you dont believe in? A holiday isn't necessarily religious. Like I celebrate Veterans Day but never served, or Memorial Day but haven't lost a family member. Breast cancer month but no breasts. you get the idea. There is a form and function, and they need not interrelate. I disagree. Christmas is a christian holiday. Veterans day is a day to honor veterans, a group we hold in a very high honor (or should anyway), ect. I think your comparison doesnt really hold well. Im not jewish, so i dont celebrate Hanukka. that's fine. Most religious people don't listen to logic. If they did they'd be agnostic or atheist, Haaaaaa this was the best answer I've ever seen here. Ok best answer any where!!!! Haaaaa and I believe in god and know that the devil exists too. Just like people. Good and evil. OP a Jehovah ? Now they go website to website?? |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 10777372 11/21/2012 01:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The great thing about being an atheist is that you can always take a leave from work and say: hey, it's Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus (or whatever) and I'm off to celebrate it! Unlike Christians, I can pick and choose. You don't need to believe in it to celebrate it. It's not hypocritical. It's common sense. Why should I be missing on the free time? If you get to go on a leave for simply having a ridiculous irrational belief system, I should get to go too. Even better, you don't have to be serious about celebrating it. You can just go home and slack off whereas everybody else is close to a nervous breakdown when they're preparing for the event. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 3063163 11/21/2012 01:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Firstly, you're an idiot. Secondly, Christmas has never been the birthday of Jesus., it is also not the birthday of Horus, or Mithra, or any of the other countless people that the Jesus story was STOLEN FROM TO BEGIN WITH! YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT RELIGION BEFORE THE LATEST IN A SERIES OF BORROWED IDEAS AND POINTLESS TRADITIONS. we atheists celebrate a day to give gifts fo our loves ones, not because it is a Christian holiday, becayss if you knew anything about anything you would know that your stupid Jesus was a. Not real, and two wasn't even born on the 25th as the stupid story goes. Give it up, don't try to insult our intelligence because you have this idea that your religion, which is the newest in a series of older even crazier religions is somehow the right one. You know nothing about nothing, and if you want a history lesson on your religion let me know. Soon the entire world will be atheist and we won't have to have this boring conversation with people who know nothing about this thing they need to defend so badly. You people truly make me want to vomit. Ps. NASA just found life on Mars, so start rejection your retarded stolen religious ideals pronto. Fucking morons. |
