If NASA had actually found something like a fossilized plant remain, there's no way they'd be able to keep it on the down-low for weeks until their press conference.

Somebody from NASA would get too overexcited and leak it to the press prematurely.

Either that or else it would be covered up from the get go and we'd never hear anything about it.
