Stoning people, forced marriages are concepts most in the West find totally alien. A big factor for me is that even the moderates in the community don't stand up to the extremists. In the UK Labour bent over backwards trying to appease minorities and this has left many of the new generation believing they are untouchable. The police over here are reluctant to act in case they are accused of religious insensitivity or even worse, discrimination. If members of the communities spoke out against the more extreme elements in their communities they would have support from the public at large.
