Going to have about 30 relatives over this Thanksgiving. About half my family is Liberal/Progressive and the other half is very Conservative.

My plan is to have plenty of booze and hide everybody's keys to their cars so they can't leave. Right before I cut the turkey I'm going to excuse myself to change into my Romney/Ryan tee shirt under the guise I don't want to get food on my cloths then come back to the table and call my panzy nephew a faggot. I'm also going to program my TV to Fox News.

What else can I do to make sure we devolve into the use of weapons?

p.s. My family is Irish so I'm sure everyone including the kids will be drunk by end of night...

I wish I was going to your place for Thanksgiving.

My family are all conservative. If there ever were any liberals, we've long since disposed of their bodies.

Never.....ever....use those subject matters at Thanksgivings or any family affairs where alcohol is served....that's da rulez at my place....I remember more than a few brawls, cops being called by neighbors, and a particularly nasty fork stabbing at the dinner table growing up...

You won't find any opposition where you'll be at on Thanksgiving day.

The people at the homeless shelter won't even look at you as they order you to pass the salt and pepper.

Something like, "Hey whitebread, hook a ni**a up and pass da salt."

Re: I'm ready to fight about Politics and Religion at the Thanksgiving Dinner Table!!!!!
AT least you have a family. I'm alone with a chicken leg and my dog. He's all I really need anyway (I mean THE DOG)

I'd love to have a family to be with. Because of my work and living situation I've spent the majority of my holiday's alone (I'm 54). By the way, I'm not anti-social, rude, loud, obnoxious, or over-opinionated. I'm a great cook and easy to get along with.

I've been alone all my life, except 6 years of marriage and we're still good friends. I'm always amazed at people with brothers and sisters who are adults and hate and fight like cats and dogs. If people knew what is was like to not have family, they'd appreciate what they have. I'm just coming from a perspective of knowing what it's like to be truly alone and watching other's enjoying holidays together. It's a pretty damn empty feeling sometimes.

Appreciate what you've got. Don't let petty differences destroy your family. And I'm not in denial that some people can be real jerks sometimes. Attention whores stirring up trouble just to prove they're the ones who are always right on every issue. I just try to separate what matters from what really doesn't.

I had a group of friends that were in the same situation and we used to have what we called our "Misfit Holidays". We got together and brought food to the beach, or hung out on the ranch we all lived on and drank brandy with the dogs, fire in the fireplace, playing and cool old rock n' roll on the stereo. I loved those days. But they got ruined. SO it's back to being alone, isolated and depressed. Kinda more than a little sucks.

Re: I'm ready to fight about Politics and Religion at the Thanksgiving Dinner Table!!!!!
Troublemaker!

But the subjects don't have to be politics & religion to have some good fights at Thanksgiving. In my family grandpa, dad & my mil used to compete to the point of shouting to talk about their favorite subjects: grandpa-history, dad-philosophy & literature, & mil-back to basics subjects.

They'd shout over the other two to take the floor. The rest of us would quietly eat and then have to wait another half-hour for them to finally eat before we could have pie.

I remember one Thanksgiving when grandpa had won the lime-light and had a piece of turkey on his fork and had been waving it around for 10 minutes as he talked about the civil war with his hands. The cat couldn't take it any longer. She made a leap across the table & snagged that piece of turkey on his fork as she flew by. Too funny.

why we never invited the Irish into polite society.

My family name was in the Social Registry. Was yours?

I would sooner slice my own throat instead of the turkey before i would do anything like that, especially if i were a bit tipsy. Peasant.

Bet you have cobwebs in your ceiling corners. My grandmother called it “Irish Lace”.

Very good plan. I suggest checking sidearms and knives at the door. Because breaking out into gunfire and stabbings could be a little much.
