NASA to MAKE 'EARTHSHAKING' ANNOUNCEMENT over MARS
-Finding was made by the Mars rover's SAM instrument - which is capable of identifying organic compounds

-Mission's chief scientist reveals the news - but refuses to say exactly what the discovery is until it can be checked

-The discovery will be fully announced early next month at the Autumn meeting of the American Geophysical Union

Nasa's Mars Curiosity rover has reportedly made a major discovery on the Red Planet - but scientists are keeping quiet about what it is.

The finding was made by the six-wheeled rover's Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) instrument in the Rocknest area of the Gale Crate, close to where the rover touched down.

SAM is Curiosity's on-board chemistry lab and is able to take a sample of Martian rock, soil or air and find out what it is made of.

Most importantly, it is capable of identifying organic compounds - carbon containing substances that could indicate life.

Except scientists are refusing to reveal its latest finding, merely saying that it is earthshaking.

As always, I expect this announcement to be a disappointment. However, they could announce a slurry or liquid substance with H2O in it.

If disclosure should ever come, I expect a certain chain of announcements to come.

Micro Fossels
Life sustaining liquid
Micro life
Floral/fauna
Finally an intelligent life of an ambiguous nature

The public can't handle the "We are not alone" announcement all at once.

This doesn't make sense.

If it's this important why wait weeks to reveal it ?

THE ANNOUNCEMENT HAS MADE..OF SORTS...
One million years ago, (that's for history books) Mars had bacterial life. Fossils of bacteria can be guessed from the mud sample of SAM.

Wish Ray Bradbury was around. He would've enjoyed this. He had so many stories take place on Mars. Wouldn't it be cool if they found out that Mars would be usable to support life? We could final start colonizing space, Mass Effect/ Bradbury style!

Either way, I wonder what their going to announce.
And it's ironic too
'Cause what we tend to do
Is act on what they say
And then it is that way~Jem.

why isn't that rover sandblasted in the dust storms ..even its lens are not scratched and its self pictures show no sand on top of it...super rover...give it up NASA ,get out of the Nevada desert...
How unfortunate for some rulers when men, women, and children continue to think... Keep repeating the lies loud enough and long enough and just maybe the people will start to believe the lies again and good luck with that...finding your energy open until mars becomes raging aries...

I got it. They'll say we can survive on Mars so it's vitally important we begin colonization of Mars immediately. To this end, they will begin rounding up certain people they feel have natural talents that can contribute to this effort. They will be held in FEMA camps until such time as they can be resettled on Mars.

It'll likely be very anti-climactic.

I worked in the space program.
At a NASA facility.

What we could be doing... and aren't... is tragic.

I just can't get excited by the bait and suspend tactics of a continually downsized, gutted, entity attempting to justify existence with some ballyhoo.

Yeah, I know. Not very positive in thinking about it.
Oh, well.
