In Genesis, I'd assume, before the Fall.

Well, if humanity were made in the image of God, then they would have to be perfect, right? Because God is perfection.

They ate from the wrong tree first...if you read the results and the penalty for eating from the wrong tree..see what happenned.

God put a huge angel with a huge sword at the garden entrance..WHY??

So they would NOT be able to get to the tree of life and eat from it and LIVE FOREVER.

So it would appear..that they had to eat from the tree of LIFE to be able to live forever..which they didnt.

Then they were not created perfect, nor created to live forever, if they needed an outsource. Your own citation of the scripture proves this. If they were created perfect and lived forever at the outset of creation, there would be no need to interject that into the Bible, nor the need for an extraneous source that provided enternal life.

When Adam and Eve betrayed God they were cursed with death. How could they be cursed with death if they were not eternal?

You're not really trying to understand but rather to negate. The answers are there for anyone who would seek them out with a sincere heart.

“The matter is quite simple. The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly. Take any words in the New Testament and forget everything except pledging yourself to act accordingly. My God, you will say, if I do that my whole life will be ruined. Herein lies the real place of Christian scholarship. Christian scholarship is the Church’s prodigious invention to defend itself against the Bible, to ensure that we can continue to be good Christians without the Bible coming too close. Dreadful it is to fall into the hands of the living God. Yes, it is even dreadful to be alone with the New Testament.”

You also realize that the tree was an allegory? So a simple tree has the power to take and give life? Doesn't sound like any tree I know of. Also, 'god' said they would die in the day they ate from it, though Adam lived another 900+ years...

No, god said simply that they would die in the day that they ate of the tree, nothing about living forever. It would be like me telling you if you eat the last cookie I'll kill you. The difference is we all know that if you did not eat the cookie, and barring any other events you would die naturally. However, by threatening you with immediate death we all realize that you would die "within that day", either way you were/are still mortal.

Maybe God was referring to their "DEATH" as such in the sense that..IF they ate the fruit..they could NO LONGER eat from the tree of life..and thus..from that DAY..they would be dying...which they were.

From a spiritual point of view..they did die that day..they were booted out of the garden..kept away from the LIFE source..and 900 years later their bodies finally caught up with what had happenned to their spirits that day.

They were..technically speaking..dead..or DOOMED..from the moment they ate that fruit.

Bro we will never fully understand the bible, this world, or anything for that matter.

But one thing is certain and OP you dont have to agree with me we are entitled to our own opinions..BUT I CHOOSE TO BELIEVE THE WORD OF GOD OVER THE WORD OF MAN ANY DAY!!

Many dont believe that God exists and you know what.... I respect that like I said we are entitled to our own opinion.

But OP we will never fully understand the bible, only you alone can decide to believe or not......but you shouldn't ask man a God question...ask God...He will answer...
There's no harm and no foul in asking God....and if you don't believe in Him, than the choice has always been for you to decide.

PEACE TO YOU!!!

You don't fully understand a work that was authored by your god? How strange, maybe that is why there are over 10,000 christian sects with their own beliefs and doctrines - yeppers, your god is so clear and concise... makes me want to stop what I am doing and hurry on back...

Re: Where in the Bible does it say that man was created perfect, and able to live forever?
My bad OP I forgot to answer your question.

The bible in Genesis obviously you already know says that God created man in his image.

And with what someone posted here God said that if Adam or Eve ate from the tree of knowledge they would surely die.

So not only did Christians conclude but many others concluded that we must have been perfect and immortal.

God image is perfect so hence man must be perfect
God said eat from the tree of knowledge you shall die hence man must have been immortal.

I dont see anything wrong with that conclusion, but you do....I see what your looking for but you will not find it.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU OP!!!

Re: Where in the Bible does it say that man was created perfect, and able to live forever?
God's people, who are the Christians, will only become perfect after being raised with new incorruptable immortal bodies.

Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for ever more. -Psalms 37:27

For the LORD loves judgment, and forsakes not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. -Psalms 37:28

The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever. -Psalms 37:29

In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death. -Proverbs 12:28

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. -John 3:16

Re: Where in the Bible does it say that man was created perfect, and able to live forever?
...

"...you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." Genesis 2:17

It does not mean he is going to die that same day, but that he will die inevitably. If there was death before eating from the Tree of Knowledge it would make no sense for God to curse Adam and Eve with death.

Like I said, you are not trying to understand, only to negate.

THIS^^^^^^^

No one can argue this. On this Earth we will never fully understand the work of our Creator. We have partial understanding but never FULL.

Ask anyone on this Earth if they fully understand the bible and if they understand the mind of God.

Not one will say yes.

Because we never had the mind of God. My friend a lot of this is confusing to us...because we have the mind of the creation and not of God...we were only created in his image.

Again you will not find what you are looking for OP.
