Re: The Logical Fallacy of Promiscuity
When in doubt look to nature. Biology says humans should be having about as much sex as Bonobo monkeys. Which is a lot.

These "ideas" and over-thinking people who think sex is anything other than what nature intended; to be fun. And if society makes people who can have kids unable to care for them, then that's society's fault. Not nature's.

Humans are social animals and should live in groups. Not in ones and twos. Then any children had by fertile females would be cared for by the group. Not because "in this economy it's not feasable to have children". Ugh! The human species relies on every female having art least two children to replace the two it took to make them. Otherwise you are in populatuion decline.

It's also smart, and like nature, to have children by many different males. Thus ensuring the best DNA make it. Not just one genetically deficient male spreading his genes.

Promiscuity is the norm. Withholding sex is weird.

Re: The Logical Fallacy of Promiscuity
There's a lot of sex in the world today. Apparently people (even Christians) think the old idea of waiting until marriage is antiquated and quaint, but there's a logical fallacy that perplexes me about this line of reasoning.

No form of birth control is 100% effective (except for surgery, which is another potential mess). That means there's always a chance that sex is going to result in a pregnancy, which is a very large responsibility that could last for the next 18 years.

Given the potentially serious consequences of taking the risk of having sex, why is the common advice now to simply "wait until you're ready" or "wait until you're in love"? Being emotionally ready for a physical encounter is not the same as being ready to take on the responsibility of raising a child.

I'm not promoting any religious beliefs here. I'm just questioning people's common sense.

OP start by taking a Myers Briggs or Jungian personality test. You will find out you are INTP, INTJ, or similar type. Most people are not and are instead ruled by emotions, feelings, social acceptance or other such crap. You will never rationalize them over to use common sense.

Now who's making up facts to suit their argument? Animals can't love. Hmm. Say that to any dog owner and see what they say about animals' capacity to love, or have morals.

You shouldn't regard yourself as above animals as you are still one yourself.

I've heard animals called "shit-eaters" yet I've watched kids eat their own poo, as well. So there's not a lot of difference if you watch a baby chimpanzee next to a human child.

Don't think you're better than animals. Do you see them drug addicted? Or abusing their children? People could learn a lot from animals.

Re: The Logical Fallacy of Promiscuity
there are a lot of negative aspects of sex - unwanted children, abortion, disease, if a woman has a STD and gets pregnant, the baby also gets the disease, heartache, negative emotions and mistrust, dislike of the opoosite sex, prostitution. It can create a user society where everyone uses other people. Also a bad reputation. Could even lead to sucide or murder if a loved one cheats. Divorce, broken families.
Common sense would tell people to avoid this. I agree with the person who stated it is about emotions, social acceptance.

Oh, good God, you can't be serious. You have to stop believing what everyone else says because it's just herd mentality. And most of them got it from TV or some movie which influences society more than reflects it.

Stop living your life like everyone else's opinion matters more than your own. Don't be afraid to be judged to then be yourself. Dance like nobody's watching. Live.

Animals are behaving out of their innate instincts, but are incapable of using their thoughts consciously to figure out what is right and what is wrong. Likewise, they can't consciously be loving creatures, but simply act on their urges. Nature did make them act in a loving manner, according to their evolutionary status, but it did not give them the capacity to consciously decide to be compassionate and loving.

Out of the love of mother nature, it gave human beings the freedom of thought and the capability to develop love to the fullest. Unfortunately, many people use that freedom to develop hate, as did some of the examples you mentioned. Some also never make the effort to develop important aspects of love, which are loyalty and fidelity, although many animals have these by nature.

Exactly! Thoughts are man's downfall. Buddhism teaches us to ignore thoughts from the Ego. In that way animals are more enlightened than humans. Just like Jesus said a nursing child can show you the way to the Kingdom of Heaven, the innocence of an animal can teach you to be human. Without the hinderance of thought.

It's thought that drives us to war, and judge others and want what they have. Horrible things have been done in the name of civilization, humanity and government that we're pittiful in the eyes of whatever god created us and the universe.

We are a disharmonious species among millions of species which already know their place in nature. Anyone on the left or right of politics would agree we are not going good, but evil, upon each other and the planet.

I too think people should be more responsible when having sex. Then again, are most people ever logical and capable of thinking things through, especially before sex? I don't think people should have to abstain from sex because of a potential accident; however, should one occur, they really should be ready to accept the consequences should an accident happen (and do such responsibly).

Sigh, I better stop here with my wishful thinking in that people made logical sense!

There are negatives to making love before marriage. There are FAR MORE negatives to waiting. Believe me I know, I waited and it was a mistake. Better to give it a go prior, waiting is another veil. BTW, promiscuity is a term made up by Herod to control his Harem. He wanted them AAALLLL to himself.

Re: The Logical Fallacy of Promiscuity
I am married and have been with my husband for almost 18 years. I have the best of both worlds. Lots and lots of sex and I get to live with my very best friend, my husband.

I don't understand why there are so many wifes out there that stay with their husbands when they simply don't like them and they don't find them sexualy attractive. If you hold the union of marriage as important then wouldn't this be going against marriage?

Whether you are a jesus freak or not, we are not meant to live an unhappy exsistance. Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed. God made our bodies, he made sex feel really, really good. If not, wouldn't that mean you are disrespecting god and the wonderful world he gave you.

Sexuality is a big part of who we are. It shouldn't define us or label us, but it is a big part of who we are. If this were not the case then the phrase "She(or her) really needs to get layed" wouldn't be applicable to someone who is acting as a overtense judgmental person.

My impression is that the OP is labeling prommiscuity as sex with anyone else other than your husband. Really? Who are you to judge?
