Obamcare forces Hobby Lobby Stores CEO to make a tough decision
A Letter from Hobby Lobby Stores CEO

By David Green, the founder and CEO of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.

When my family and I started our company 40 years ago, we were working out of a garage on a $600 bank loan, assembling miniature picture frames. Our first retail store wasn't much bigger than most people's living rooms, but we had faith that we would succeed if we lived and worked according to God's word. From there,Hobby Lobby has become one of the nation's largest arts and crafts retailers, with more than 500 locations in 41 states. Our children grew up into fine business leaders, and today we run Hobby Lobby together, as a family.

We're Christians, and we run our business on Christian principles. I've always said that the first two goals of our business are (1) to run our business in harmony with God's laws, and (2) to focus on people more than money. And that's what we've tried to do. We close early so our employees can see their families at night. We keep our stores closed on Sundays, one of the week's biggest shopping days, so that our workers and their families can enjoy a day of rest. We believe that it is by God's grace that Hobby Lobby has endured, and he has blessed us and our employees. We've not only added jobs in a weak economy, we've raised wages for the past four years in a row. Our full-time employees start at 80% above minimum wage.

But now, our government threatens to change all of that. A new government health care mandate says that our family business MUST provide what I believe are abortion-causing drugs as part of our health insurance. Being Christians, we don't pay for drugs that might cause abortions, which means that we don't cover emergency contraception, the morning-after pill or the week-after pill. We believe doing so might end a life after the moment of conception, something that is contrary to our most important beliefs. It goes against the Biblical principles on which we have run this company since day one. If we refuse to comply, we could face $1.3 million PER DAY in government fines.

Our government threatens to fine job creators in a bad economy.

The catch 22 is that blacks abort half of their children. If they didn't do that this would have happened long before now.

Hey since you all are such strong Christians, are you all going to stop importing a ton of cheap shit made in godless communist China that has a one child policy and forced abortions and most of their inferior shit is made by slave labor and they've helped put millions of Americans who are Christians out of work. Where the fuck were you when all this shit started happening 20 plus years ago. Where was the lawsuit on that. Bunch of hypocrites...

Our government threatens to fine job creators in a bad economy. Our government threatens to fine a company that's raised wages four years running. Our government threatens to fine a family for running its business according to its beliefs. It's not right. I know people will say we ought to follow the rules; that it's the same for everybody. But that's not true. The government has exempted thousands of companies from this mandate, for reasons of convenience or cost. But it won't exempt them for reasons of religious belief.

So, Hobby Lobby and my family are forced to make a choice. With great reluctance, we filed a lawsuit today, represented by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, asking a federal court to stop this mandate before it hurts our business. We don't like to go running into court, but we no longer have a choice. We believe people are more important than the bottom line and that honoring God is more important than turning a profit.

My family has lived the American dream. We want to continue growing our company and providing great jobs for thousands of employees, but the government is going to make that much more difficult. The government is forcing us to choose between following our faith and following the law. I say that's a choice no American and no American business should have to make.
The government cannot force you to follow laws that go against your fundamental religious belief. They have exempted thousands of companies but will not except Christian organizations including the Catholic church.

Since you will not see this covered in any of the liberal media, pass this on to all your contacts.

Sincerely,

David Green, CEO and Founder of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.
 Quoting: Gnye 1596197

unfortunately if you don't follow the law, you face consequence. Whether against your faith or not. I agree with you 100% and I believe you shouldn't have to be told what you need to provide for your employees, especially if it goes against your faith, but in this case, as you have stated its not about the money, pay your fine and stand up for what you believe. If you give in your being bullied and show the government no matter the situation they will win. In this case they win regardless but to pay the fine and show them that you cannot be detoured from your faith is a much bigger accomplishment, not only for your business but the general public and other business owners. Best of luck.

Shut down the company, fire the employees, liquidate the assets and enjoy the rest of your life with your family.

Sit on your money with the exception of your loved ones comfort and pleasure and stop feeding the beast.

Such hypocritical BULLSHIT

I bet the FULL healthcare benefits currently available from Hobby Lobby already cover "morning after pills' and other contraceptives they are listing.

This is just an excuse to use GOD as a scape goat.

I hope they close this crap down. I for one will now openly boycott them.

Yes they can, they've exempted Muslims, they've exempted the Amish, and they've even exempted themselves saying that those who made this law are exempt from following it.

You can take this one step further as Ann Barnhardt has,

You cannot pay for the wholesale blood sacrifice of the innocent in an occult style fashion of death while worshiping the government as if it were GOD and expect to make it into heaven.

Ann Barnhardt:
"Watch every second of this.
Posted by Ann Barnhardt - November 6, AD 2012 3:58 PM MST
Watch every second. EVERY. SECOND.

And then may God forgive each and every neo-pagan imbecile who DARES call themselves a Chritian that sends me an email talking about the "waste" and "stupidity" of my tax strike. These women went to the guillotine because the state passed a law forbidding them to wear their habits (nun's uniform) in public.

This regime has passed laws demanding that I, along with every single one of you, pay for the murder of infants.

While you idiots frantically twist scripture to justify your own breathtaking idiocy, shallowness of intellect, cowardice, narcissism, nauseating materialism, and above all FAITHLESSNESS, rendering unto Caesar YOUR IMMORTAL SOULS just so you can keep your precious, precious shit, I'll be over here, following the teaching of Jesus Christ as revealed infallibly in Holy Scripture through His Church and the example of the Roman Martyrology, and I'll be RENDERING UNTO GOD THAT WHICH IS GOD'S - which in case you haven't figured it out yet, is EVERYTHING, including one's life.

Watch this, and then understand what shameful, pathetic excuses for Christians and human beings the vast majority of "Christians" in this dead Republic are today. "

The Amish are exempt since they dont have SSN or pay taxes. The Muslims do, so are not exempt.

I believe there are ways for the company to get around it if they do an alternate health plan.

I can't believe people didn't know this was going to happen. That's why most wanted Romney. The media talked about the majority race of people voted for ob but those majority race of people are going to be out of jobs provided by republicans and people who own companies, they were not looking at the big picture. Oh well.

That's it isn't it. Get around it, work the system, comply. fall in line.

How about this.

How about refusal to go along.

How about a national refusal to go along?

How about an outright refusal just like prohibition and slavery.
