If storage space is not an issue and you never intend to have to transport the nickels, I would much rather have a $100 box of nickels from the bank, than a $100 one gram green Federal Reserve Note. The nickels in the $100 box have an intrinsic metal value of about $106, while the one gram of green paper is essentially worthless.

Well " hoarding nickels because they may be worth a cent or two more than face value," actually makes good sense. I cent is 20% profit and 2 cents is 40% profit. Basic maths really.

Dont forget that its a perfect hedge against both inflation AND deflation. There is no surcharge for trading them. At 7 cents currently, just obtaining a nickel pockets you a 40% profit by saving it for its base metal value.
