It holds 13 rounds which is 11 more then you need. The .45 has more stopping power and penetrates fewer walls than a 9mm. I have a lot of choice for primary home defense but the Glock 21 is loaded and ready to go.

Its proven. .45 will put em down every time. Kimber makes a great 1911 but its more like $700. Edited to add: A shotgun is better for home defense. The handgun is a backup. Not a hand gun. 12 gauge tactical shotgun. Bar none. There is nothing else that will hit so much in the dark while sending minimal colateral damage down range. If you have children or other family in the house, the last thing you want is to miss then hit. A 12 gauge with some bird shot in it will do a wonderful job with minimal skill.
