I am partial to GLOCKs and 1911, and you can never go wrong with a good wheel gun in .357 magnum. Regardless, if you go with the 9mm, 40SW, 45ACP, .357M, etc., get hollow points. Remember practice, practice, practice...failure drills, reloading drills, drawing the weapon, etc. A good light as well. Remember, if you can NOT see what you are shooting at, you don't know what you are shooting at. |

DW shoots better groups with my 45. The 9mm with the right ammo will stop most bad guys. With 17 rounds in the clip You have plenty of shots. The Springfield XD series have a safety that the glocks dont have which IMHO is safer for those who are not experienced in hand guns. |

Thank you, thank you very much. |

Less weight, more shots in magazine. 22 ca has instant kill with head shot 90 percent of the time using stingers. 70 percent of the times with heart shot. Multiple shots to body will cause bleed out in about 10 min. However if you're not a great shot and easily panic under pressure I would use a 40 cal, especially if they are wearing body armor. |

If you are NOT willing to train, I suggest NOT arming yourself. Or maybe, get a good 12 gauge shotgun, but still train for fuck sake. Your life and the lives of your family depends on it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27874496 United States 11/21/2012 11:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The best handgun is one you shoot well. Nobody can tell you what is best for you. For me I only like one handgun. A 1911. Large frame handguns with 5"+ barrels are easier to control and less intimidating to shoot. The gun should fit your hand well. If you have small hands you'll probably enjoy a single stack mag. Caliber is less important than many think. Too small is way better than too big in my opinion. A well handled .380 is much deadlier than a poorly handled 44 mag. And the 380 is much easier to handle well. The famous 10 rules of a gunfighter has been taught for decades and every gun owner should read them every week when they go practice. That's every week when they practice. Here they are: 1)Bring a gun. Preferably two guns. 2)Anybody worth shooting once is worth shooting twice. 3)Only hits count. 4)Shoot until the threat is eliminated. 5)If your shooting stance is perfect then you are probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly. 6) If you can choose what to bring to a gun fight, bring a friend with a long gun. 7)In ten years nobody will remember details about guns and calibers. They'll only remember who lived and who died. 8)If you are not shooting you should be running or reloading. 9)Accuracy is relative. Combat shooting is more about pucker factor than any inherent accuracy of a particular weapon. 10) Some day some one may kill you with your own gun, but they will have to beat you to death with it because it will be empty. |

Let me correct you before you lose in court. You shoot to stop the threat. When the threat is stopped, so do you. Ah fuck, I was not going to post anymore. Kind of hard for me, because I like to help people. This really is it. |

No competent person will advise anything but a center of mass shot. Aim for the trunk of the body. Don't shoot them in the knee cap or the head or any lame crap like that. No trainer anywhere has ever advised anyone to do that. It's life and death. Life for one of you and death for the other. Aim for the part you can hit the easiest and which happens to be full of vital organs. A 22? really? |
