Re: This just in… Illinois Governor Pat Quinn terminated state government’s contract with 40,000+ Union workers
I am a retired teacher. I have to agree that some of the unions did and do go overboard in the past decade.

When I started teaching, I had to work two jobs to make ends meet. Not complaining, cause I liked teaching and selected the job knowing this. I also knew that after 35 years I would receive a pention that I payed into.

Illinois state legislature stole the monies and stopped putting in monies that were earmarked for teacher pensions. That is what happened. Corrupt politicians.

Its a RED HERRING.

Quinn does this crap all the time. Forces a position that is illegal that makes him look like a hero knowning damn well that it will go before a liberal judge who will have to make a decision in favor of the union..

By the time Quinn gets done, the Unions will get a raise and he will raise the state income tax 2-4%.

Quinn is the biggest Shill of all time.

Quinn = Loser.

You and may other pensionistas need to familiarize youself with chapter nine bankruptcy. ))

Just like many social security sponges need to grasp the entire meaning of the scotus ruling . It is right on the website , you as it stands under current law are not entitled to eat the shit out of the elite toilet bowls.
Its a tax tax tax tax tax and congress can change the rules anytime they like.

How much did you ACTUALLY pay into your pension fund? How much do you expect to get out over the course of your retirement? Even if the state had paid every penny into your pension fund it would still be BILLIONS in the red?

And do you want to know why? Because assuming 8% returns on your investment year over year for every year is INSANE. The state knew it when they signed the agreement with your union. Your union officials knew it too. And since at least some of you are math teachers, they should have realized it as well.

The idea that you could pay in a paltry 2-3% of your total pension fund, the state could throw in another 20% and the rest would be made up with magical market investments simply makes me say to you: You should have saved for your own retirement. I hope you get NOTHING. Most cities in IL are now paying 50% of all tax revenue, HALF! just to retired police, fire fighters and teachers.

It is because of your 3 unions most states and counties and cities can't afford to fix roads and bridges. Who on earth else gets to work 30 years and retire? Most of us have to work 50 years.

You are aware that Illinois teachers do not get social security? All of my outside work pays into social security but I do not receive any benefits.

Police and Fire retire after 20 years..I think.

Teachers...35 years. Teachers pay in 9 percent. No social security. I do not believe muicipalities pay anything toward teacher retirement.

Re: This just in… Illinois Governor Pat Quinn terminated state government’s contract with 40,000+ Union workers
Let's continue on this little lesson about the difference between private and public sector retirement options.

The public teacher works 25-30 years, paying in 1% of their gross income into their pension funds.

The private worker works 40-50 years, paying up to 15% of their gross income into their 401ks.

The public worker, retiring 10-20 years sooner, and having paid nearly nothing into their own retirement accounts, are GUARANTEED more than your average private worker who worked 20 years longer and paid way more every year of their own money into their own retirement.

And public workers can't figure out why we just don't give a fuck and actually WANT to see them homeless.

If you retire and don't have your home paid off already and are a public worker and NEED your pension to live your over-extended debt-ridden lifestyle, we all say to you: FUCK OFF and go live under a bridge.

They may be paying in 9% now, but the ones who are now retired did NOT pay even close to that amount. And they are the ones whose CURRENT pension costs are bankrupting the state. What current teachers are paying really only excacerbates the problem. It's the freeloaders from the past that have already destroyed the system. Those in the queue now are just having their money stolen from them to pay their now-retired former colleagues.

This just in… AFSCME: Quinn terminates union contract - Quinn says union won’t offer ideas

[link to capitolfax.com]

QUINN ADMINISTRATION TERMINATES UNION CONTRACT

In an unprecedented step, Governor Pat Quinn’s administration late today terminated state government’s contract with its largest employee union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 31.

“In 40 years of collective bargaining, Pat Quinn is the first and only Illinois governor to terminate a union contract,” AFSCME executive director Henry Bayer said. “His actions will heighten employee frustration, provoke instability in the workplace and make settling a contract more difficult.”

AFSCME has been in negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement for nearly a year. Scheduled to expire last June 30, the previous contract’s terms had since been extended by mutual agreement of the parties. But following a bargaining session with a federal mediator in Springfield today, the Quinn administration rejected a further extension offered by the union.

Terminating the contract has little immediate practical effect, as all existing terms and conditions of employment remain in place under state law. But it signals the Quinn Administration’s lack of respect for the collective bargaining process.

“While AFSCME is committed to reaching a fair agreement, Pat Quinn seems bent on heading in the wrong direction,” AFSCME director Bayer said. “Our union wants constructive engagement but the governor is choosing confrontation instead.”

AFSCME Council 31 represents 40,000 men and women who work for the State of Illinois. AFSCME-represented state employees care for veterans and the disabled, help struggling families, protect children from abuse, maintain safe prisons and much more.

No word yet on what might happen next. Stay tuned.
 Quoting: box o' rocks 5240776

If "AFSCME" is doing all this: "-represented state employees care for veterans and the disabled, help struggling families, protect children from abuse, maintain safe prisons and much more." What are the government departments that are supposed to be doing all this, doing with the money extorted from the tax payers?

Did you know if a government office makes enough "other money", such as fines, for example, to run the government office, theyarenot allowed to apply for tax-payer money?

Appointed, volunteering, Christian, tax payers must be appointed, by local people, to monitor such government offices that receive "other money" to see if, in fact, they need tax-payer money. Open records are the law.

Nope, you are wrong. Payed 9% since 1971. Overtime, some, not all, school districts picked up some of the cost through contract negotiations in lue of salary increase. It's still 9%.

I played the roll of second class citizen for decades.

Teachers were nice, but not payed well at all.
It was part of the job to work for less and receive a pension.

Now there are lots of envious out of work spouting out.

It doesn't surprise me at all. Blago(Blagojevich) has been saying this all along, and that's why he is being put behind bars. He is the good guy, they are trying to shut him up. Exactly what he said has come true.

[link to www.examiner.com]

Gov. Rod Blagojevich has been in the news for some time now. I believe that Blagojevich is innocent.

By the way, don't forget Rod Blagojevich accomplished many things while he was Governor of Illinois.

The top ten list of why Blago is innocent (and then Blago’s list of just 25 of his major accomplishments while in office)

1.) In regards to “the deal”, There were no bags of cash. Nobody got shoved up against a wall and had his pockets turned out. The government caught the Blago's talking deals on the phone, but in politics, that's what you do. This happens in any business, that's what you do. And the prosecution has failed to show that the Blagojevich’s did anything more than shoot the breeze.

2.) Blagojevich was picked up by the feds because he dared to threaten Bank of America a few days earlier with the loss of all state business…

3.) The media has only tried to bad name his credibility, poke fun at his hair, call him names, or criticize his personal life. We Are Change, with the intention to provide the American people with the TRUTH, talked to Governor Blagojevich about his resistance to big banks, which is what really led to his arrest. And here’s the video mentioned in that e-mail. Blagojevich does utter some expletives (no surprise there), so be careful if you’re on a work computer…

4.) Like Obama, Blago is innocent because he said so. Many forget that after all, this whole debacle comes from the Senate seat that our President once held. Why hold a former Senator to a higher standard than a former Governor?

^^as funny as that sounds, you are 100% correct!!! When a libtard does this, you know sh** got real...and ironically, Quinn is also wanting to cut health benefits...ironic because of the fact that Obammy's healthcare is "supposed" to be a good thing but apparently, even his dem buddies are fighting it, in their own ways..NO ONE CAN AFFORD what is being done...

LOL just LOL...it was such a grand idea that more people are losing their jobs because businesses cannot afford all the regulations being imposed on them...this affects everyone...remember, not all businesses are BIG business...

Glad the unions are being denied....Hopefully, more and more businesses and states will stand up to their greed and just say NO...NO MORE....

Hostess did it, Quinn did it...who will be next? We shall see...

Reckon there will be plenty of applicants for vacant positions?
In his book, "Between Two Ages," Brzezinski wrote: "The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values."
