Somebody has to find out what the Precentage of the H2S was that came out of that well. Get on it somebody. Somthing happened. H2S just doesn't show up like that. This is very Important. My dad needs to know.

Don't think there's been any mention of percentage.

Workers had completed hooking up flaring equipment to the vent well in question earlier Monday and had only recently begun burning off methane when the hydrogen sulfide was found.

He said the gas was released from equipment that separates impurities from methane coming out of the well before it reaches the flare.

The separator releases what it collects every two minutes, Cranch said.

“When they smelled that from the separator, they shut it down,” Cranch said.

Patrick Courreges, spokesman for the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, said officials believe any risk of hydrogen sulfide coming from the other five vent wells — three of which are flaring methane continuously — is very low because they are shallower compared to the other well.

But he said additional air monitoring was conducted around the five other vent wells and no hydrogen sulfide was detected.

John Boudreaux, director of the parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said the flares would not burn off any hydrogen sulfide that might come up from the vent wells.

The purpose of the five wells is to remove gas inside the Mississippi River Alluvial Aquifer at 100 feet to 130 feet while the vent well that hit the hydrogen sulfide is the deepest of any of the vent wells at a depth of about 430 feet, parish and company officials have said.

That well also reaches the caprock of the Napoleonville Dome.

Office of Conservation officials noted Tuesday that salt dome caprock is an area known to contain hydrogen sulfide.

In fact, the caprock of some salt domes in Louisiana and Texas has been mined for sulphur through what is called the Frasch process dating back to the late 1800s. The last U.S. Frasch sulphur mine closed in 2000, according to the Sulphur Institute, an industry group.

Texas Brine’s site is over the salt dome and the band of caprock that sits on top of the 1- by 3-mile salt deposit.

But the site is near the western edge of the dome and so areas farther west, including the sinkhole and the Bayou Corne community itself, are not over the dome or the caprock, parish and Shaw maps show.

hs2? is this thing volcanic????
 Quoting: SnowboardingAlien

Doesn't need to be but it will act like one if it goes up.

H2S comes from and is in Gas. Deep Well Gas/Sour Gas.

Sweet Gas is in Shallow wells and rarely contains H2S.

Thats the general rule of thumb anyways.

430 feet is nothing from what my dad said to me. Its rare at those depths but can come from Vegetation. Thats a shallow well and they don't normally produce H2S. Deep meaning a few thousand feet typically have H2S. Somethings not right with this picture.

Percentage. Need percentage content of the Gas vs H2S. That and that alone will tell the whole story. Then we will know if they are lieing. They will know what the answer is to that question. They know and can't say they don't. They Know.

I've been looking for the exact answer to your Dad's question...haven't located, as this is "new" news, looks like the results may not be available yet. It's the "gub" doing the work and they move kinda slow.

Thankyou. Got a bee in your bonnet too...? I'll be looking and checking back till we find it out. Its 1:30 am here and I think I have to call it a night soon. Don't want to but probably won't find anything else out till morning breaks and more information is available. This might not be somthing they want anybody too know about. For the very reasons my Dad needs to know about it. It will say alot about whats going on down there. Really going on down there. Your so sweet helping like this. If you were a member I would give you lots of Karma...!

Thank you :)

Yes, agreed: 1) it's likely they'll only tell as much as they have to; 2) it's a holiday weekend; and 3) they may be utilizing the holiday break to mitigate the circumstances so they can report better news by Monday.

I'm always hoping for the best!

Have a good restful sleep, nice to meet and chat,

TM Here. Just not signed in. Not to worry. Don't want to fan the flames. Family is close by and Dads feathers are ruffled. He's really worried. Drilled many a well all over even Middle East. Dealt with Sour Gas lots. Dangerous stuff. Just trying to figure this out. Always gets worse not better. Trying to get accurate Information so he can assess the situation to warrant MAKING the family come home. He's putting out some feelers to pick up any GOSSIP. Any Information I get for him will be given CAREFUL consideration based on FACTS. Be reporting same.

The Seismic activity is Alarming along with H2S. Also reasons for Capping Well are reasons for Concern to say the least. He has a Huge Bad Feeling about all this.

Blessings.

H2S. My God... I remember wearing the monitors for that stuff when in a refinery. What is it...at 6 parts per million, first breath (through your nose) you loose your sense of smell and the next breath you are dead.

I believe that is accurate I do not have the time to confirm.

I have looked for any thing in regars to the H2S content vs the Gas content and there's nothing. They aren't saying or talking about it yet or maybe just plain won't. It has to come out sooner than later.

H2S gas comes from drilled deep wells. They drilled into the cavern/aquifer as a relief well. The H2S percentage will show whether this has just accumulated in the Aquifer or whether this is a LEAKING WELL not yet disclosed or a collaspe of the ground in the area because it is unstable in and around the area. It will tell everybody quite a bit but need the information first. I now have a map of the drilled wells in the area and the depths too which they were drilled and their status. All records must be filed and kept on file. Connect the dots time.

Damage control and thats it. Information is getting hard to come by. Everybody has clammed up. Liability and alot of other issues and shut up orders.

Still nothing available on what the percentage of H2S vs Gas was. Nothing.
