Island in Pacific Ocean disappeared, CIA to blame?

Google earth satellite photo plainly shows at least the shallow coastline edges of an island that was at least there when the photo was taken.

doesn't explain why SATELLITE images show something there, and there is now nothing but what looks like a gash there, does it?

When my grandfather bombed islands in the South Pacific during the second world war, there were many locations (points on a grid) they were not allowed to fly over, and if they were ordered to fly over due to fuel charting or midflight path changes, they were ordered not to photograph. Most of these locations were given code names, and "(random name)island" was typical... this was to thwart Japanese counterintelligence on the airwaves from locating stationed aircraft carriers or flotillas and their rendezvous or mid-pacific refueling points.
Somehow some of these points actually wound up on military maps after the war, since the locations had to be declassified and most likely war veterans wanted to share stories of their naval and air force adventures amongst themselves. Also, the courts investigating the war activities later identified some of these points and had them documented for trials and tribunal purposes.
50 years later, global warmers used several of these hidden points of interest to try and prove that the oceans were rising at an astounding rate, islands were disappearing rapidly, seabirds were drowning and natives were blowing bubbles. They even went as far as to claim that one entire indigenous island tribe had jumped into canoes and completely vanished. Not that they ever existed on the secret island that never broke waves in a location that never saw a coconut.
One irate scientist even went as far as to make the statement "...you should go search the invisible trash whorl if you want to find the missing canoes, you idiots..."
It may also have been a booby-trap for copyright protection purposes, if a cheapskate map copier printed a map based on Google's version without buying the rights, the fictitious location would expose the violator. Many mapmakers use invisible streets for this same purpose.

We can't tell what happen. You will not understand, neither we. It was a Fringe event occured a few months ago.
