A Year in Jail for Not Believing in God? How Kentucky is Persecuting Atheists. What Happened To The 1st Amendment?
In Kentucky, a homeland security law requires the state’s citizens to acknowledge the security provided by the Almighty God--or risk 12 months in prison.
The law and its sponsor, state representative Tom Riner, have been the subject of controversy since the law first surfaced in 2006, yet the Kentucky state Supreme Court has refused to review its constitutionality, despite clearly violating the First Amendment’s separation of church and state.

"This is one of the most egregiously and breathtakingly unconstitutional actions by a state legislature that I've ever seen," said Edwin Kagin, the legal director of American Atheists', a national organization focused defending the civil rights of atheists. American Atheists’ launched a lawsuit against the law in 2008, which won at the Circuit Court level, but was then overturned by the state Court of Appeals.

That SOB has cost the state $160K in legal fees due to garbage legislation he's sponsored.

Taxpayers/citizens should demand that he be legally removed from office.

As a vocal atheist and member of activist atheism party, I've found it offensive since it was first sponsored. Makes me angry on a level that I don't think I could put into words. People in Kentucky need to fight this even harder then one could imagine! Be vocals, folks! Stand up for freedom of religious oppression! Where is this line being drawn? There are representatives in EVERY state that want something like this passed. It will nbumpot happen in mine! Make sure it doesn't happen in yours, and by god (joke).. join the fight!

Such a crock.

Religionists consistently SHOUT their beliefs, whine about perceived violations of their "rights", falsely claim the world has gone to hell since prayer was removed from schools, whine some more about christmas and nativity scenes and why they can't have their plaques and statues and prayer in government buildings, feverishly strive to convert all the bad ol' heathens in the world, whine a little more because they don't feel free to pray out in the open, and they condemn, scorn, and persecute anyone and everyone who does not believe as they believe . . .

Now . . . do tell how it is that atheists are whiny, noisy little bitches?

Re: A Year in Jail for Not Believing in God? How Kentucky is Persecuting Atheists. What Happened To The 1st Amendment?
Words "separation of church and state" are not in the First Amendment. NOT!

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for redress of grievances."

the 90 founding fathers never mentioned even once during the framing of the First Amendment (June 7 - September 25, 1789) a "separation of church and state." (See Congressional Record.)

The same day Congress passed the First Amendment (Sept. 25, 1789); they approved a resolution requesting President George Washington to proclaim "...a day of public thanksgiving and prayer.

thomas Jefferson wrote this phrase, "thus building a wall of separation between church and State...." on January 1, 1802, (11 years after the First Amendment was ratified) in a private letter to the Danbury Baptist Association to assure them that the federal government could not and would not try to establish a national denomination. Jefferson was an ambassador in France during the time of the Constitutional Convention. However, while President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson was
also made president of the Washington, DC public school system in which he placed the Bible and the Isaac Watt's hymnal as the two primary reading texts! Jefferson's phrase was used only twice by the U.S. Supreme Court from 1802 to 1947; and it was not until 1947 (Everson case) that it was taken out of context and given a meaning never intended (first use was 1878 in Reynolds case).

Excellent!

Not believing in God is one thing, but being hyper-sensitive to the mere mention of Christianity, and then extorting communities, municipalities, schools, and businesses because of it is quite another.

People like this Kagin twat-waffle are parasites on our society. They are some of the most hypocritical, condescending, pretentious sacks of shit roaming the planet.

These are the kind of people who will sit down in front of a classroom full of kindergarteners and "educate" them on how stupid they are for believing in Santa Claus, and then walk away with a smug grin and a sense of self-satisfaction, believing they accomplished something.

And here's the kicker: I'm and atheist too. But because I don't believe in the same thing that you believe in, why should it matter to either one of us?

Now I'm not offended by Christians, and I respect their beliefs, just as I do with anybody's religious subscription,
but these whiny little anti-Christians seriously annoy the fuck out of me.

It truly embarrasses me that I share a basic belief with them. I mean if they are so much smarter, then why don't they act like it.?

Here's a clue to all you annoying atheist: Try to be a little more tolerant. Because if you do others will too. Don't sweat the petty shit. pet the sweaty shit. Learn a little respect. It would make all our lives a little better.
