The "beast" is not a nation. The beast is a kingdom, and kingdoms are synonymous with empires. Daniel 2 & 7 tell of four EMPIRES.

The beast has "horns". Horns we are told are kings and kings rule nations and empires.

The antichrist spirit was at work at the time of Paul then to form into the Roman Church - another jesus.
