It happens, but I can guaran-damn-tee you someone has a $1.50 to grab 2 condoms from the machine in the gas station bathroom. So, we don't need tax payer funded birth control.

tightening the belt loosens the mind.

i read the hatred for the homeless and the blacks.

i watch the huge suv's pull out of 2 and 3 car garages.

people engage in road rage to race to the next fix.

we warned you in the 60's and called you materialists.

my neighbors killed this country as much as the bankers
in their 3 piece suits.

drop bombs anybody who doesn't agree with your childish
notions about religion.

you vote for frauds and clowns.

Sorry OP I don't believe this

or if it is true, it is chosen by the people themselves.

why would I say this -

I work in a very poor school. the students all- and I mean all - dress very well if they are from downtown.

My clothes have been repaired so many times they are falling apart.

they wear the newest fashions, including sneakers that cost a lot, and have expensive electronics I can't afford.

Yet they are on free lunches - what a joke!

Free lunches so they can buy all the junk they want.

Not free because of need or hunger.

the proof is that it all gets thrown away.
all the fruit, they eat the dessert and main course SOMETIMES, mostly just the chips and cookies in the snack line.

Do not tell me about hunger. It does not get poorer than where I work. THEY ARE NOT HUNGRY.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28167778

Most states give out clothing vouchers to the children on food stamps and free lunch. Here in WV they get 200 dollars for each child. Those vouchers can be spent almost anywhere. Most kids around here go to Gabriel Bros and get name brands at cheaper prices or they spend their voucher at the mall. I have seen signs at JC Penny, Kohls, and Old Navy, so just because they have name brands doesn't necessarily mean their parents have money.

But back to the topic, I myself have to eat only once a day sometimes to conserve food for the kids. It sucks but hey sometimes I have to.

Dear NR, I sincerely hope you are not hungry today.
My experience is not yours.

I wonder if West Virginia is a different place from the urban setting I am talking about.

My problem is that the high school students I observe do not eat the food they get, and if their clothing is being paid for by vouchers -
Heaven help us all.
We can't solve the one entitlement program (food) by creating another (vouchers for name-brand clothing).
Many of my friends shop at Goodwill because school staff can't afford much.
If the problem is money, can we earn more?

If the problem is a lack of food supply, can we grow more?

I personally feel that all free lunch/ free breakfast / and in our area summertime free supper programs

are dependency training programs. END OF STORY.

If you want to stop hunger, teach home economics. Get educated for a better job. Those things work.

This is true, I also worked as a teacher in a big city Elementary School and most kids were on free lunch, they threw it away, it was really painful to watch. I come from a developing country and this would never happen.
There were a few exceptions, but most kids didn't look like they were starving to me, they even had money for snacks.

I just came back from the Philippines. I manage to take care of 2 children who's mother can't afford to properly care for them. I provide them with their daily needs. This is how they live every day of their lives. We are on the glide path to this lifestyle. THANKS LIBERALS,you have managed to destroy the last great civilization.

it's a sad state of affairs that one in ten Americans are in this state.
I know some people are lazy and brought it on themselves. But others are victims of circumstance .

Been there, done it, lately.

But, hey..I lost weight! :)

We seriously are struggling, but I manage to make meals pretty cheaply.

Yesterday, I made a HUGE pot of homemade chicken and dumplings for around ten dollars. The chicken was 7 dollars, and I used a stick of butter, milk and flour (of course, my secret blend of herbs and spices) for the dumplings..it was delicious and lasted two days.

I know its very hard, these days, but we all have to learn to go back to home cooked meals. No fast food or take away meals. We have to learn to live like our grandparents did.

For $10 at my local store I can get a 10 pound bag of potatoes, a small bag of rice, a small bag of beans, and a 4 pound container of pancake mix.

Pancakes, potato pancakes, plain rice, beans, rice and beans, baked potatoes, fried potatoes, etc.

Lots of healthy calories and this is enough to feed an adult for an entire week.

I really think we need to drop all the crap out of our educational system and teach people survival cooking.

Many of us choose to go without meals so our children can eat. We'll use an excuse of "Oh, I just finished preparing the meal and I'm full from all of the good smells."

Mind you, my children are now in their 30s. Hubby & I did "go without" many meals (breakfast & lunch) and ate very little at the dinner table.

Even today I cook from scratch. It's easier to controll ingredients & avoid added sugar, salt, preservatives & additives. Hubby has Celiac disease, so it keeps things interesting converting recipes & trying new things.

Pity Home Ec was phased out of schools. It was one of my favourite classes. We learned to budget, shop, cook, sew, tend babies, etc. We also learned these life skills in the home from our parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles.

For an eye-opener, check the Library for cookbooks dating from the late 1800s to early 1900s. Many have daily food guides from those times. It is amazing to read and puts into perspective the "portion distortion" and "over abundance" we have today in the developed world.

Liberal Utopia! Tax the job-makers to death. Put everyone out of work. Create social programs to care for the people you own. And the best part is that it can never end. There is an unlimited supply of rich people to support the non-workers.

here is one I bet you never heard of and it is good too.

Stewed tomato gravy on toast.

Can stewed tomatoes, place in skillet, salt and pepper, and white sauce

serve on toast, has a wonderful flavor.
