I live in Maine and this was most likely because of the many scandals and brutal murders that have taken place lately which appear connected to people at high levels. I am reminded of the Harrison Ford Hollywodd film "Morning Glory" I think it's called.

In this film, he plays a cranky newsguy who is "real", and he objects to being on a morning fluff news program.

In the end, he ambushes the Governor of the State at his home, perhaps getting the Governor removed(?) The film ends with him smugly thinking he's done some useful shit.

Tactically I would say that the elites need to destroy Maine, in order to have the high speed rail corridor from the ocean to Canada.
