Yes. The security guards at my company make as much or more than the field service technicians. It's truly ridiculous. And the guards do not carry any weapons.

The company I work for doesn't have a 3 story building but we did install all our computers and our video camera system and networks ourselves.

We've NEVER had a "computer technician" come in for any of it.

I am surprised you make nearly as much as a security guard. Those guys/gals are the bomb.

IT's where it WAS, now that's waning as well. Get a Network+ certification, then move into a Security+ certification, and at that point you'll know exactly what you want to specialize in, and your income will shoot up to 100K.

An American has no chance wasting his life in IT unless you are at the top of the ladder,the workers are imported from India where its cheaper too train these people and they have more qualifications and will work for a bag of peanuts and dont ask for anything else,they will try and out do you at every turn constantly under cutting you,they dont need a living wage,the American worker wants everything and the weekends off.

Computer Technician is a great foundation, but you need to expand now, Security/Storage/System/Network engineer is next, unfortunately this is relentless but if you enjoy the challenge and technology, there's no other industry to be in...
