Black Friday is supposed to be a day of deals

And you know it's on when the fat lady gets trampled and squeals

It was actually a Black Friday six years ago that made me get REALLY serious about prepping.

I had never bothered to get up at 4:00 am for a sale but I was visiting my sister in California and we decided it would be "fun" to try it out once. LOL, what a couple of newbies. We made it to the WalMart parking lot in the pitch dark 4:30 am, only to find every single parking spot gone already.

I said "Why don't you drop me off and I'll wait in the line while you go across the street to find parking." So she drove up to the front of the store and we had to drive all the way around to the back side of the store to find the end of the line. There were thousands of people, literally.

And the thing that WOKE ME UP was that they ALL, even the women, looked like thugs who would just as soon shank me as let me get to the big screen TVs ahead of them.

I realised in that split second, in a sort of flash of reality, that if the food trucks ever stopped rolling for any reason, these people would be my competition at the grocery store. Wow, just wow.

My girlfriend used to live in NY state and they would post 2 police cars at every walmart every black friday. When she asked the cops why they were there they always said "keep the unrulies (sp?) and lawless out."

She said the cops never publicly talk about "thugs" because it's used for those monumentous times when you gotta rattle their cage.

I laughed so hard. :)

People get killed every year trying to get cheap China junk! What fools! Only thing I am going out for really late in the afternoon is the half price dog collars at Petsmart for my furbabies if they still have the right sizes in stock. Figure if I wait long enough in the day that the herd will have blown their wads so to speak and gone home to sleep it off!

At this time of year, it just might be a good idea
to hand those genuinely poor and homeless
folks a hot cup of coffee or the warm jacket that
you've been meaning to donate to charity...or
maybe just a few encouraging words. Can't hurt
to be kind to those less fortunate.

Nice sentiment, and I do pity (and help) the truly downtrodden....but where I live (Sacramento) a lot of the "poor" are driving around in Escalades. Jes sayin'

Gee, only two police cars? The line I saw would have needed several swat teams if they decided to riot. Thousands of them, one of me, yikes.

I live in the city because of my j.o.b., but my gas tank is always pretty close to full and I do have a rural bug out spot. Anyone stuck in the cities is ultra doomed when tshtf, imo.

Where you are in life, you deserve to be.
