Alone also. Flu bug has struck hard here so thanksgiving off. But someone is coming to whither the death germs and bring Turkey care package so not a total loss.

I was invited to my families thanksgiving dinner, but I'm not going because they're not the ideal family to have dinner with.

I'll take the doritos.

I think everyone does that. Most all of my appliances are used by patries unknown{I know but I won't say}to watch me and verbally abuse me so it's reasonable to yell at them in frustration.

I left my parents home this year (long story short, I cant stand watching my brother suck my parents lives anymore), the first months were VERY hard, because of the loneliness, nobody to talk most of the time (most of my friends live in Sao Paulo, I live in Santos, Brazil) and I work as doctor so I have few spare time to myself.
I learned to live alone and ended loving it, I kinda miss my mom and the regular complaints by my dad. But in the end that was the best decision I've made. In this year I think I've become a better person AND a better worker.

There's something that I always say to my friend in the time of need, I don't know if it'll make much sense since I'll translate it, but here it goes...

"When you're alone and think that you're weak, actually is the moment that you discover how strong you can be and how marvelous are the things that you can accomplish by yourself."

Be strong, hang in there, you can do it, you shall prevail my friend !!!

Quit all the snivelling................ family functions are usually just a pain in the ass anyways. Sit around and pretend you are having fun, but counting the minutes until you can make your escape. So many people go to these family functions as it is expected and they act like it is a great thing because they have been brought up to believe they are special times with significant meaning.

I mean really.......... another Norman Rockwell moment. You see these perfect family gatherings depicted in paintings and on TV. In real life, when you get to know other people you find out they are just people and the families are far from perfect. Half of them hate going to the family functions, their sister is a hooker and their cousin is a meth head. Mommy and Daddy have stuck together through the years for the sake of the children, but don't really like each other any more yet are afraid to call it quits after so many decades of being married because they are afraid of the unknown.

Seriously, you want some meaningful companionship, get a dog. They don't complain, are always happy to see you AND no hidden agendas.

i have family but choose not to be with them...WHY...becuase my child became disability at 4 months old...6 years later, they are still uneducated on him, show no concern, and have no idea what me and my wife go through..

I understand majority of people are uneducated or lack of experience of the subject...

But you know what, i became educated, so i could take care of my son, instead of throwing him in a nursing home..

and if one of my family members where going through the same, i would show my concern, show my support, give my support and would always be in my thoughts..

My seperated mother, father and brother are the most selfish people on this planet...other people have seen this...i have 30 aunts and uncles and not one call in 6 years, only from non-blood related uncle and i am thankful for him many times...and yes i do pick up the phone when grandma is sick and few visits when in town with family members...

not very thankful for the rest of my family...Now i understand... why, out of all my family members, i was the only one put in this position..Because of my ability to handle the situation...Fuck everyone else, and their selfish ways...and that is an understatement...i have been through this for 6 years, and this is not just a delusion, it is acceptance and final awarness after all these years...

But i am thankful for my stressed out wife, even when she goes crazy, understood, right...thankful for my 2 year old, who is doing very well, from the education i have gained, due to our first born complications..and very thankful for help from the angels that have been answering my prayers, when praying for my 6 year old and his well being...

Your an asshole and you should admit it.

We dont celebrate this holiday in Ireland but I just want to send ye a big hug ... I dont know whats its like to be alone during a holiday but I can imagine it can be a long day if you are on your own.

Good thing is though there are good people here to chat to if your not up to doing something else or going out.

I'm home alone by CHOICE. I had 2 invites but turned 'em both down (one person has hep C, another is gay. Do I want to eat at their house? NO!) so I could stay home and get some chores done. A friend is bringing me a plate later on.

My girlfriend of 9 years is working at the hospital today and this is my first thanksgiving alone EVER. IT SUCKS!!


My family is too fractured to enjoy their company so i decided to just watch the games alone and maybe head over and wait in line for a black friday gift.

I sympathize. I would suggest you consider joining a church or other local religious community or a synagogue. they can be quite helpful for various things. :-) hope you have a great day.

If I was home alone today, I would go get me a yummy Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks, take in one of the great movies that are out, Argo, Skyfall, Lincoln (my favorite of the three). Then watch the Cowboys at 1:00pm at a sports bar that might be open. Then play some on-line poker.

I hope you can find something to do that is fun for you.
Happy Thanksgiving - I am thankful that I have children, a job, shelter, and food. Be thankful you are not a Hurricane Sandy victim. Whenever I complain about something, my daughter reminds me we could be walking in their shoes, and then I shut up.

Seriously, my wife and I watch that every year.............. it is very funny in a dark sort of way. Too dark for those who want to have a warm pink fuzzy feeling all the time about the holiday season. For the rest of us who are tired of the Christmas commercials and BS by about Dec 10th it is a good movie.
