here is my advice. go to the web site called google, and find an appropriate web site for tech printer questions.

clean the contacts on the inside. also some printers have additional sensors that check how full a cartridge is. some use lasers and some use pressure sensors. if you notice your printer has one of these sensors screw around with that too. if its a laser clean it etc. otherwise if it refurb ink you bought online for cheap and not manufacturers ink i have seen this problem before and it may be defective ink catridges. you may be stuck needed manufacturers ink. if it is manufacturers ink and none of the above works then your printer is probably a brick now.

Dude's right, Canon is awesome for making it basically easy to refill the carts.

I am a refill master, and have owned only Canons for years now, one that I bought for 30 bucks now sells for 90 on EBay, simply because all the other printer manufacturers are total shit.

IBM (Lexmark), HP are shitty companies, so you can expect them to suck. I will admit they had to make some decent laptops, but the printer game reveals their true demonic nature.

Canon, otoh is a fine company, who not only makes great lenses and cameras but also gives people a printer that can be refilled, thereby saving costs. Gutenberg would be proud, it is divinity to allow the people to print. Bless you Canon, even though all corporations are inherently evil.

OP they put a chip in the fucking thing to tell if you are cheating, but Canon's new printers are smart enough to just say you can go ahead on your own and proceed to refill if you want "but it's dangerous!" which it isn't. I'm not saying Canon doesn't produce its share of crap iterations, but they are by far the most human friendly one in this market.

Printing, is holy work. I have a personal library 4-up doublesided that fits just into the size of a dive bag. I made this library on my Canon printers, and when I bury it in a timecapsule, some dude 10,000 years from now will be glad I owned a Canon and was able to refill my carts, whilest other shitty companies tried to disable humans from doing so.

Sounds like cartridge sensing has lost electrical connection to the controller board, or the controller may be defective. Might be cheaper to buy another.

You can get 7 sets of cartridges for $25,for certain canons from amazon. That's 35 cartridges for what you would pay for 1 hp carriage.

I got tired of messing around with those stupid ink jets and bot a Canon black only laser jet. The starter cartridge lasted 2.5 years. I still think they screwed up at the factory and put in a full toner cartridge. Been over 5 years now, very few problems.....
