Yes, in anatomy class over a decade ago. 2 dead professors donated their body to the academia. The smell is unforgetable.

Re: Anyone ever found or seen a dead body?
Today I was thinking about something that happened to me 13 years ago. I was walking down a San Francisco street when I happened upon a man who was asleep on a pile of garbage.

He had a huge gash on his ankle that looked to be infected and seemed in dire need of medical attention. I called 911, gave my info.

The next day I got a phone call and a visit from the police questioning me. When the ambulance arrived, he was already passed, and had been for some time.

And I got to thinking, how did he end up on that pile of trash by the side of the road? Did he fling himself there before he died? Or did someone put him there?

The police later told me there was no evidence of foul play. They wouldn't give me cause of death but because there was not much smell, I was thinking it had to have been recent.

I just can't bear to think of that man in his final moments, and what may have been going through his heart, and his mind.

May he continue to rest in peace. And may we all continue to be grateful, no matter what obstacles we face in life, we all have it better than that poor man.

You are lucky his death was natural cause. If someone had killed him and then you were unfortunate enough come upon him and care enough to call the cops they would have charged you. Of course the lack of your DNA would have thrown their BS case out you most likely would have interrogated and held for a couple of days. What if you had tried to help him and got your DNA on him? No good deed ever goes unpunished in the eyes of the law.

Regretably, I've seen many. Cut my teeth when I got my EMT at 18 and did CPR a few times doing my ER time with no saves (while getting my EMT). Still in the same business currently X 26 years. Every experience has been different: trauma (or traumatic full-arrest), acute cardiac arrest, found down by family or friend (natural), anonymous behind a building or car, suicide, crispy critter, asthmatic with bad outcome, etc. Kids are by far the hardest to deal with.

Yes. I took the vitals after the car bomb went off. It was a bloody mess.

And smelled like cooked pork.

The smell of embalmed corpses smells just like the ham they serve for breakfast and holidays at my hospital. Yuck! Won't touch their ham!

Re: Anyone ever found or seen a dead body?
Yes, two in one night. I was doing my 24 hrs at the ER for EMT training...the first one to go was a two year old.
The second one to go was a homeless man...he died because everyone tried to revive the baby.

I never went back after that night, I was 3 days away from being certified.

After watching that young mother sob like that & watch a man die right in the next room because everybody ignored me when I said that he was crashing...they didn't care about him...they wanted to save that baby.
The baby died anyway, she suffered from a rare form of dwarfism and her heart gave out.

But, the man could have been saved. The ER staff acted like it didn't even phase them and I was astounded by the negligence when it came to the homeless man. Why would I want to expose myself to untimely deaths and emotionless staff on a daily basis? Homeless people's lives don't amount to anything...any one of us could be homeless very soon.

Five minutes later, I was ordered to give a 98yr old woman a catheter. I knew that she wanted to die, but her family wouldn't let her. Because she had dementia and being 98yrs old, her daughter was in charge of her affairs. This poor soul was just withering away and ready to go home to heaven and I had to force this woman's legs apart in order to put in an uncomfortable catheter for the first time...friggin unsupervised.

I did real well in that class, and I thought at the time that it was what I wanted to do. I aced anatomy, cpr, heimlich, fractures, I.V.'s, blood pressure, pulse, etc, etc. I had a perfect grade and the final exam was the next day.

I never showed up to take it

My parents weren't too happy that I blew off the exam, but since they both work in the E.R., they took one look at my face and knew that I had a very traumatic night and that it just wasn't for me emotionally. They understood and never made me feel guilty for quitting, even though they paid for the course. I'm too empathetic of a person to handle death and sadness in a professional way.My parents were exposed to these things every day...why would you wish that on your child?
