US 'Strongly Opposes' Palestinian Move For Observer State Status At UN

The United States is strongly opposed to the Palestinian move for achieving Observer State status at the United Nations.

This was stated by U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice on Wednesday while coming out of a closed door meeting of the Security Council on Gaza.

Most orthadox Jews also want expansion. They believe all of occupied territories belong to them. They are a growing population. Most orthodox Jews have 5 to 6 kids. Eventually, they will need more room.

Palestinians Defy Obama With UN ‘Observer State’ Bid

Palestinians defied newly re-elected U.S. President Barack Obama by pushing ahead with a second statehood bid at the United Nations that will raise their profile at the world body and highlight the stagnation of the Mideast peace process.

As for the U.S., the administration’s position hasn’t wavered. The U.S. ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, has said repeatedly that “unilateral actions,” such as the upgrade of the Palestinians’ UN status, would only derail efforts to restart direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

Clinton returned to Jerusalem from Ramallah and met again with Netanyahu, Barak and Lieberman. The Palestinian UN bid also came up at this meeting. If the Palestinians pursue the Nov. 29 bid, in which they said they plan to ask the United Nations for upgraded status, Israel will take severe action that will "upturn every future arrangement that would have been considered acceptable by Israel completely impossible," Haaretz said.

"A reality in which the United Nations recognizes a Palestinian state according to a unilateral process will destroy all Israeli deterrence and completely harm its credibility," the document states.

Israeli officials say the U.N. move violates the Oslo accords. They also fear the Palestinians might move to expel Jews from the West Bank settlements if the U.N. vote goes their way.

In an interview with Israel Radio, Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan said Israel should pre-emptively annex the settlements.
