Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14380192 That people are "breaking" their current televisions so they can purchase a "new" one at a huge discount on Black Friday. We as a society are on the brink... Well, that is one negative name for such a day. Hence the dark, as opposed to light. Just the negativity in the term, "black friday" is frightening. I did a little more digging and indeed, more or less like you said: "The day's name originated in Philadelphia, where it originally was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving.[4][5] Use of the term started before 1961 and began to see broader use outside Philadelphia around 1975. Later an alternative explanation began to be offered: that "Black Friday" indicates the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or are "in the black".[4][6]" [link to en.wikipedia.org] Sounds like a day to stay home and eat leftovers! She was really discussed after having had viewed it. Canada has boxing day sales after Christmas. I have never seen a mob like this at a store ver. Nobody camps out to get deals ever. Nobody fights over stuff ever. So what makes us different that we don't act like this. I don't have that answer but the way in which these people act to get STUFF is sick. It really is. When you look around at the state of the world and all the problems and you see all these people just pileing shit into carts thats totally usless I have to shake my head. I don't get it anymore. People have lost sight of whats important in this world. You can't blame the bussinesses because thats their jobs to supply goods and services to those that want the shit they sell. They all have to compete so they all do it. Can't blame them. These people are not human anymore. This is not what its about. I spent 500 dollars today and bought 600 kg of mixed grains and cereals and beans and sprouts to bake with and plant with and it will last 4 of us for 6 mnths in a pinch. They bought DVD's and players and shit shit shit and more shit shit shit. What are they going to do with all this shit when it hits the fan. Most probably could not afford what they bought and most probably went on the good old credit cards. I read somwhere that they were going to ban these kinds of sales. I remember reading somwhere that some people got trampled a couple years ago trying to get inside the doors when the store opened. No wonder the rest of the world thinks that Americans are fucked up. They should ban thses Black Friday Monday sales. Its getting out of hand. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1447583 United States 11/23/2012 02:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I don't blame the businesses as much as I blame the customers. If customers stayed at home with their families on Thanksgiving instead of buying cheap Chinese shit for 10% off, businesses wouldn't open. The Great Wal-Mart of China and other retailers are merely satisfying the demands of their customers. I will agree that it sucks employers don't offer more pay on Black Friday, but oh well. If you don't like the job, quit. Society starts with the individual. When individuals stop being mindless sheep, materialistic and start respecting themselves, only then will our society change for the better. On a side note, remember that many of these people voted. Isn't democracy grand? That being said, I can't wait for the 2012 Black Friday compilation video. |

They should ban thses Black Friday Monday sales. Its getting out of hand. Many of these people are ignorant because they've been brainwashed by our federal govt. They teach them that having material things will bring them happiness. I'm sorry, but I do blame the businesses because there's a limit. Greed can NEVER be satisfied. It always wants more. The CEOs of these businesses don't care about their employees. ALl they care about is putting money in their pocket, regardless of how it affects their employee's lives or well-being. Most of them do put it on credit cards. This leads to more debt, and unhappiness, in which case they buy more STUFF to make them feel better. It's a vicoius cycle. I dont' think they'll ever realize, the happiest people are the ones who live simple lives, putting value on the things that matter. It is all about the people you love, and spending time with them...not material things! "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." - Matthew 22: 37-39 "What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?
