Why this whole, black bit in Friday? What is the meaning?

I worked at a toy store during Black Friday, and trust me. At the end of the day, you're DEAD. I got there early that day, and didn't leave until 5 AM the next day. Thank you. Well, that is one negative name for such a day. Hence the dark, as opposed to light. Just the negativity in the term, "black friday" is frightening. I did a little more digging and indeed, more or less like you said: "The day's name originated in Philadelphia, where it originally was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving.[4][5] Use of the term started before 1961 and began to see broader use outside Philadelphia around 1975. Later an alternative explanation began to be offered: that "Black Friday" indicates the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or are "in the black".[4][6]" [ link to en.wikipedia.org] Sounds like a day to stay home and eat leftovers!
