how to help girlfriend that wants to lose weight?
Now mind you she is not some obese typical American that weighs 300lbs.

But she does like food, she loves cooking foods, and loves eating a lot of it.

But she is very self=-conscious of her weight and wants to lose weight, but yet can't stop eating more than what she needs.

Myself, I eat when I am full, and that is about half (if that) of what she eats.

I personally do not understand how she can eat so much and not be full, and then wants to eat dessert.

But I hate sweet foods anyway.

She's a vegetarian and mostly eats breads, vegetables, and fruits. But she always puts cheese, milk, butter, and a lot of fattening diary products in her food. And she eats twice as much as me.

I want to suggest to her a 1500 calorie diet, but she has been doing this "1 day fasting" thing. Where you eat normally one day, and maybe an apple or 2 the next day.

I saw this on a BBC documentary about fasting (and I think she watched it too... which is why I think she is doing this).

But I think a 1500 calorie diet would be better for her as I heard not eating makes you more fat (somehow? I don't know).

Any suggestions? Or is the 1500 calorie diet the way to go?

She has the right idea about fasting, maybe look into intermittent fasting.

Re: how to help girlfriend that wants to lose weight?
The breads are worse than the dairy. Maybe if she can eat more whole foods (non-processed). Things like lean chicken, fish (especially salmon), fruits, veggies. But she can still eat some of the other things, like dairy. But she MUST exercise. Be active. It doesn't have to be a gym. Many people's eyes glaze over when they think about running on a treadmill in a gym. Mine included. Walk. Jog, Bicycle. Hike. Swim. Do fun stuff. And you could do it with her to make it more fun. Depending on the amount and type of exercise/activity she does, she wouldn't have to change her diet THAT much. But if she can knock out the sweets and breads (and some of the dairy), that'd be ideal. Get outside. Get some sun. The sun provides a certain type of Vitamin D that you can't get anywhere else. The sun has gotten a undeserved bad rap. Sure, too much sun is bad. Too much of almost anything is bad. But you HAVE to get SOME sun. So ya, get outside, get active, and alter the diet a bit. Also, for a lot of people, vigorous activity curbs the appetite, so maybe she won't desire so much food.

Also nuts, legumes, beans, etc. Again, though, if your diet is basically good, you can eat some of the other stuff that isn't so good for you. You don't HAVE to be a health food Nazi. Just make sure MOST of what you eat is good stuff.

Dude that is good advice, but she gets more exercise than me. She walks everyday and even more. She doesn't eat processed foods at all. She doesn't eat meat (like I said she is vegetarian).

I think you have good advice, but she does all of this if not more and still feels bad about her weight.

She just eats too much, and I don't know how to help her cause she acknowledges this too, but can't just stop eating.

It's some weird thing with her. She tells me all the time "I want to stop eating but can't cause it's comforting for me."

I'm like how the hell can you eat when you are full?

LOL I hear ya. Sorry, I forgot you mentioned she was a vegetarian. Hmmm...well, if she's not too overweight, nor has health problems associated with being so -- like high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, high triglycerides -- I think she's fine, and she shouldn't worry too much about it. :)

Re: how to help girlfriend that wants to lose weight?
introduce the idea of fasting. There are some great fasts, for like 10 day periods of time, such as the master clease, that do no harm and reteach the body how to use food.

The animal flesh that is our bodies isn't use to eating food all the time. It has had times of lean where the body then enters deep cleaning work. However in modern day cultures this is not allowed because of a steady stream of cheep and accessable food.

When you fast for a long period of time you start to realize what your body is really calling out for. A bowl of plan white rice starts sounding like a banquet.

And while that fast is going on you can research food and reboot your lifestyle diet.

You have to make up your mind to finish the fast before starting as your body will begin to play tricks on your mind. You'll think very easily you're killing yourself or that you'll die or have sicknesses that can only be cured by eating again.

Don't fall for it. its best if you can plan a fast weeks in advance and make up your mind that you'd see it through just for you. It will not kill you, in fact it might just be the best thing you've done for yourself in a very long time.

OP,ask her to check out this link. It's an online community of like-minded people that are losing weight, or have lost it, and stay with it for support. They have an excellent tracker that helps you learn how much you are eating correctly, and not enogh of, etc. Also teaches portion control, which sounds like one of the problems your lady has. A lot of people keep eating till stuffed, when if they would stop short, the brain will eventually catch up.

Sounds like she's not satisfied. More sex is in order. She probably needs to feel more attractive than she does now.

This may sound strange, but I've found that women's minds are wired differently, so maybe that's why it works, sometimes. Tell her she's beautiful, and rub it in. You have to mean it or she's going to hear the lie, but it's interesting that whenever something goes wrong and she loses her ability to cope and cries, my wife I'm speaking of, all I have to do is tell her "everything's going to be O.K." No matter the problem, or if it really is going to be O.K. she believes me because she believes in me.

Anything that is intended to "teach" her in any way is always met with derision, if not an outright arguement. If she thinks for one instant that I don't believe in her she gets to see a wedge between us and tends to drive it in firmly.

Other than that, support in any way that makes her feel like she's in control of her life is good. Remember, you can lead a horse to water, but... They have to feel its O.K. to be who they are and believe in themselves, hence, they need to feel attractive and they will, over time, be attractive.

Water aerobics will allow her to lose weight without putting stress on her leg.If there is not a community pool near you there are many at home pool options, or you can design and build your own cheaply. I know someone who exercises in a cattle tank with a submersion heater from a hot tub stuck in it (have a certified electrician review whatever you do in that regard)
