DIGITAL SLR CAMERAS: Which One (or Ones) is the Best? Not Most Affordable, But the Best.
Which digital SLR camera(s) is the best? "Best" in this case doesn't mean best for the "value". It simply means the best digital SLR camera.

I personally use the EOS 5D Mark II because it's much cheaper, but not very much weaker. The lense makes much more of the picture quality. You always should go for light intensity and sharpness.

A good, cheap lense is: Walimex 14 mm 1:2,4

It has no auto focus but that's what makes it so cheap. I personally love this lense.

Thanks for the advice!

What lens do you feel is best? Again, not for "value", but just plain BEST.

Do you know when the Canon EOS 6D is coming out? Will it be the absolute best digital SLR camera available anywhere?

I think the Canon EOS D6 is out already. It's for sale online.

So, in your opinion, is Canon better than Nikon? Why do you think so?

in christmas im gonna get my sigma sd1 merryl, if you don't really like gimmicks and want to stand out in the "exquisite" crowd this is one of the "exotics", but my grip for it is not that. whoever comes and bashes this magnificent beast many shortcomings certanly never handled and compared foveon and bayers..

or you can go down the route of digital backs.. anyway, any machine nowadays is quite good, and honestly my 1ds keeps getting dust while my compact is always working her ass down. want little things? go with a powershot s100/panny lx/etc or g series, or get a good micro four thirds.

compacts are always with you. big guns are always.. big guns.

(btw fujifilm has some little rangefinderish cameras out that are reportedly very good in terms of handling and overall photographic experience)

As for filming you can't go wrong with Canon and a bunch of prime lenses. The prime lenses let in the most light. As for a micro or macro lens there are tonne of help guides in deciding. If money is no option just look up reviews and buy the ones with a static F stop. f1.4 up to a f2.8 but if you get a lense with say a f1.8-3.8 then you will have different amounts of light coming in at different zooms.

forgot to say that the RED cameras have all come down in price. Great for video. I think their cheapest right now is $4000.00 then next up is $12,500.00 Just for camera though. These cameras require lots of extras and specialized mem cards and readers and lenses.

Lots of film makers are getting Black magic cameras right now as the price is more affordable for what you get.

Just curious, why do you feel the Canon EOS 6D is the best camera out there, yet the Canon EOS 1D costs 3 times as much as the 6D? I would think the much more expensive camera is better. Of course, I'm just assuming. What say you?

Well... 1D Mark IV is the very bedt cam at the moment.. But it costs 5.999 € at the moment.

6D mk I will be available for 1.999 € ... Which is the best price/quality ratio you can get. But if you really want to buy the best cam there is - go with the 1D series. They are designed for professional high end photography.

As for the lense.... It depends on what you want to shoot.

If your a beginner and can afford it just go with the Canon mark 3. Full sensor for your lenses means you can take RAW footage video and stills. The canon also takes sigma lenses without adapters. Many professional film studios will have those cameras around for filming b-roll footage. They shoot in tight corners as they are small.

It's what I'd buy.

agreed... invest in glass. great glass is an investment which will hold it's value.
the camera body is doomed to depreciate over time.

I shoot with a 5D, 7D and 5DII

My personal most used lenses are 24-70L 2.8, 16-35L 2.8, 100mm 2.8 and the 70-200L 2.8 IS

My 300mm 2.8 IS is by far my most superior IQ lens but due to size and limited focal range, it is also the least used.

I wish I had the funds for the tilt shift 90mm L, the 135mm L and the 180mmL

Re: DIGITAL SLR CAMERAS: Which One (or Ones) is the Best? Not Most Affordable, But the Best.
how much are you setting as your high end price limit for the full set up (body and lenses) for the stated shooting style you mentioned (landscape and wild life)?

My initial thoughts are two bodies and at least 3-4 lenses.

Two bodies for two reasons:

Full Frame for landscape with a good wide lens and a good zoom for general street style shooting.

Cropped body for wild life, sporting and other moving and or long range shooting

Full Frame

Pro's:
Advantage of the full mm range of your wide lens ..landscape

Sensor

Cons:
Perceived decrease in reach on your telephoto long end rang
e
Usually Slower frames per second than a cropped body (drawback on moving wild life)

Crop Body

Pro's:
Perceived longer reach for use on the long end of your telephoto (wild life)

Faster Frames per second, generally, than a comparable FF (sports/wildlife)

Cons:
Crop factor prevents true (full) mm range. Depending on the factor of the crop the widest end of your wide angle will not be achievable. The actual impact of this diminishment determined by the factor at which it is cropped (example: 1.3, 1.5, 1.6). Greatly impacts your landscape shooting

Sensor

Personally I prefer to carry two bodies, sometimes 3.
FF with the 16-35 or 24-70 attached
Cropped with the 70-200 attached
*if carrying a third body then the 16-35 goes FF, 24-70 for the second FF body and 70-200 for the crop body.

The advantage of at least two bodies is that I can take advantage of the pro's of each body style and I can quickly capture both long and short range without the trouble of changing lenses.

The draw back is the bulk/weight of more than one body/lens but personally I don't mind it. I'm always carrying a good bit of weight for my job (two laptops, applications, forms, client files, purse...... etc). I'm used to hauling at least 75lbs at all times for work so carrying 2-3 camera is nothing in comparison.

Just thought I would throw this out there if you have not considered the advantages of having both a FF and crop.

The cost starts to increase dramatically, of course, as I know I would want at least a wide angle lens, macro lens, telephoto mid range and a very long prime for the wildlife ...300mm minimum but 400mm to 600mm would be idea for wildlife such as birds
