Check it out,it's cool-generate electricity with boiling water.... Quoting: meganebula . (I'm gonna need my cell if shtf to call for help, obviously! :) ) Ha,ha. None of the cell phone towers and cell servers will have backup power for very long. No cellular service. Duh... Dumbass. lol you not know what sarcasm is? I got tons of info stored on my iphone... pdf's epubs etc etc an smart phone can be a handy tool in SHTF scenario... Sure the phone would be useless... but I dont think anyone owns a smart phone just for the phone... love... |

meganebula (OP) User ID: 547854 United States 11/23/2012 06:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | On a related note, keep in mind that sometimes when cellphone service is out, texting still works. Uses a lot less battery power, too. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27352798 I also scanned all my important documents (birth cert, passport, marriage license, insurance account numbers) and emailed them to myself on gmail. If I have to run for my life and end up somewhere in another state with nada, I can still (maybe) log on to gmail and have some documentation available. Not perfect but hey, I'm trying to cover all the bases. Sorry, not trying to hijack OPs thread... :) Good idea! Might still need those things in a shtf scenario that isn't 100% total devastation. love... |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 27352798 United States 11/23/2012 06:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The people who think their cell phones will work in a big SHTF, WTF are you doing on this site? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12786780 SHEEP beyond belief, LOL cell phones after it all ends wow some of you are complete fucking tards. If we knew exactly what kind of shtf was coming, we could all look like geniuses getting ready. We might even look as smart as YOU. If there is a giant 'kaboom' on the east coast, my cell phone on the west coast may work for days, enabling me to coordinate with family and friends. If ebola starts making the rounds, the utility company may not be staffed, but the cell towers are independent of the local utilities, enabling me and my family to bug out. An earthquake could knock out power but cell phones might still work. Ditto for laptops. |

Fuel will run out of backup generators at MAX 96hours. How do I know? Because I built them all summer, and last year, and year before that. I know cell sites in an out, from guyed wire to self supporter, to the little house that sits on the land, to co-locate...etc. It will run out, then say goodbye to your GPS, communication, internet, everything. No point in keeping your phone. 15Kw generators(4cyl diesel turbocharged with a 250GAL tank, max(MOST SITES). This will run non stop as soon as main feed is cut, 96hours max.)They run off a programmed unit as well, and will run out quicker as the tower demands more power as it's current users continue to climb. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1378339 Netherlands 11/23/2012 07:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | so why not just get a pair of 6 volt bikelamp gennies, and series them to a 12 volt battery(or just charge 2 6volt batts)? then any vehicle charger works, as well as being able to power a radio, a tv, an inverter. no need for fire, no need for boiling water, just clamp them to a "free on craigslist everywhere" stationary bike and spin it up... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28147705 Well, we've got Dumbass and now we have Dumber who misses the point of the potential usefulness of a hydrogen generator. That's OK, we'll let Dumber sit and pedal his stationary bike when he needs a few kilowatts. |

Quoting: INK3 Same thing here following tornadoes. No cell service for even longer than the power was out even though they brought in temporary towers. And yes, there are temporary cell phone towers but apparently they don't work very well. One of the most important aspects of conspiracy theories is being able to discern when there isn't one. Oh yeah, like you'd understand anyway. Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?. . .J. Handy |
