Yeehaw. Just disconnected my gas water heater and am getting ready to install my new one.
POS original plumbers had couplings and cpvc connected right to the tank. I just cut all that shit off and am using stainless steel couplers for the cpvc which I am cutting way back, and stainless steel flexible tubing for the new heater's nipples.

It's a cool story when your water heater is leaking and you don't want to pay some fat ass plumber to replace it.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but it looked like the dipshit plumber who put the thing in deliberately made it so fucked up and complicated that people would be afraid to replace his "work." I was afraid of it, so I cut it all off and am replacing it with easily disconnected stainless steel water heater connectors.

Hot on left, cold on right, shit don't flow up. Only 3 things about plumbing you need to know. Per my mechanical systems class teacher.

They had cpvc hooked right to the tank and running right next to the heat duct.

OP you make me so happy we built our own home!

I just helped a bud of mine install two electric on demand water heaters with a cut out so he can run either the on demand or the gas tank heater or both.

Don't forget a heater blanket they help even though it's in the house.
