So Fox business did some looking into Black Friday and here one thing they found. IT'S ALL A SCAM!!!

-- Price spikes actually occur on Black Friday 2011--24% of the toys on ShopAdvisor's list were priced above their initial holiday season price.

I know it's a day late and even Fox obviously made the decision to not put this out until the DAY OF Black Friday. But being aware of this for next year can't hurt.

Interesting that they found that one of the WORST days of the year to go looking for deals is indeed Black Friday.

It's like that everywhere all the time. You don't get "deals" anymore, you think the big companies give cheaper products from the goodness of their hearts? Nope, you get 10 bucks off something that means you're paying ten bucks more for something else. Always.

My wife works as a scan pricing person for a grocery store and every week tags come in with "sale" prices, but the original price is now knocked up 30 cents. For every 50 price decreases she does 100 increases to make up.

it's not a scam, it's marketing. they entice you in with a couple of bargains on high ticket pieces at store cost, then gouge the shit out of you on everything else to make up the difference. all retailers do it. if you actually want or need any of the crap with the price cut, then only buy that. otherwise just wait for sane pricing to come back a week later.

I bought a 47" TV for my shop online at Wal Mart using "Site to Store" last week, then picked it up yesterday afternoon. No waiting in line or camping out for hours on end to rush the electronic isle for me. The price was better than any other flatscreen that size that people waited in line for also. I learned my lesson years ago and will never do Black Friday again.

LOL, Shhhhh

Noticed that years ago.. Have never ventured out into the zombies on Friday after Thanksgiving.

They marked up the prices 50% from what they were in August to lower them 30 percent.

Great marketing for the sheep.. Get millions in one day and they actually stand hours in line to get ripped off.... Bahahaha

There ARE good deals out there, but you have to be careful and do your research. For instance, know what you want and what the average prices have been for your item. Then if it happens to be included in the sales on Black Friday, you can judge whether it really is a bargain worth going out for.

For instance, I noticed that all of the cameras on sale yesterday weren't as good or as cheap as a deal I happened to find by accident on the Costco website a couple of months ago.

Same for TVs. There might have been a few decent deals on TVs here and there, but most of the prices I saw advertised just weren't that much off the "normal" price, and most of the brands weren't top quality.

On the other hand, I *did* find some great deals on 32GB USB drives and SD cards, plus a Toshiba 500GB portable hard drive. None of them were at the big box stores, either, which means there were no crowds to deal with.

Know your items, know the prices, and you'll be a lot less likely to get sucked in on questionable deals.
