I read somewhere that this has to do with earths magnetic field along with geomagnetic storms around earth's poles. And yes it is constant - louder during flares and CMEs.
Quoting: Alexander Mine is 24/7. But I usually know when the sun is very active, when a flare or CME is on the way. The ringing is louder and i feel pressure in my head and it feels like someone pulled a rug out from beneath me. It has my full attention that brings along a profound alertness to the experience and a dullness to my surroundings.
