I've been experiencing the same thing. It really wasn't noticable until the last month or so. At night, I've been wearing earplugs due to hubby's snoring, and the noise has become intense and high pitched...enveloping...I call it my crystal noise...and sink into sleep listening to it.  So you hear it even "through" the earplugs?
