I hear it every night when I go to sleep, and no, I haven't had a lifetime of listening to loud rock music or concerts.
I always thought it was all the electronic wireless smog in the air I was hearing, but when the power was out for 2 weeks during Sandy, I still heard it so it must be coming from another source, perhaps it is something to do with earth's magnetic field or the like....

I have always felt that it might have been caused from all the electrical equipment/electricity surging through our devices in our homes. But if you could still "hear" it when there was NO electricity flowing during Sandy black-out, that shoots THAT theory out the window! THAT makes it interesting to me. BTW, I ALSO "hear" it, but always chalked it up to "electrical" sounds from household devices.
