I was thinking about getting niv or esv so i can comprehend the verses better i would still use my nkjv but when i find a verse difficult to understand id look it up in my new bible. Now if all you had was an ESV, or NIV or __________, fill in the blank, how would you know that some of the more cantankerous demons only come out by prayer and fasting? I too use the Strong's concordance. But here's where some get mixed up. Although pharmaceuticals, was later derived from the word pharmakon, it's not the same thing. I personally like the New Century Version. It's used in children's bibles and for me, is the easiest to understand. I believe it is translated from original text or whatever and translated to plain English. If a child can understand the language used, so can i. Regarding Mathew 17:21, here's an interesting take This verse is not found in many of the modern translations (ESV, NET, NIV, NJB, NLT, NRSV and is written in italics in the NAS and footnoted as lacking in the "early manuscripts"). So why shouldn't this verse be included in these translations? Simply because a wide range of the early manuscripts and translations did not include this verse.. more at link [link to forum.bible.org] From my studies, I know Catholic exorcists, will fast prior to an exorcism, with casting out demons. Although not conclusive, this may give an indication of the effectiveness of fasting and prayer, and hence the validity of the verse (Mathew 17:21). |
