Campfire Stories! Here's mine. Tell us yours!
Title: "OMG it must have been a TR 3b"

Twelve years ago in 2000 I was camping about a mile from the Northern California coast. About 60 miles south of San Francisco at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse. Anyone here know it? On high cliffs above the ocean. Unobstructed view out over the Pacific. Moonless night.

It was a kids' camping trip and in addition to us parents there were some teen chaperones. Around 9 pm a buzz went up among the chaperones. They started yelling about a UFO out over the water.

I climbed on top of my car and looked out over the Pacific. What I saw was hard to interpret:

Three lights moving parallel to the coast in a southward direction. They appeared to be near the cliffs, maybe 100 - 300 yards out.

They stayed in a fixed relationship to each other so did not appear to be separate crafts but rather all attached to one structure.

They formed a flattened triangle in 2 dimensions, kind of like a sailboat with three masts would do if the middle one was higher than the other two.

Based on the speed at which they passed our location, at that distance, I would stay they were moving 60-70 miles per hour.

The lowest light appeared to be about 100 yards in altitude.

No sailboat can possibly move that fast.
Few jet aircraft can move that slowly.
Sailboats do not have 300-foot masts.
Ships cannot come that close in.
They were perfectly, utterly, silent.

I've never forgotten that sight. Always thought it must have been some kind of unknown optical illusion. Until I read about the TR3b. Now I'm convinced that is what I saw.
