The ego really knows now bounds. As you can see, the ego that believes itself "spiritual," "awakened" or enlightened is really one of the trickiest and most difficult ones to deal with. Because such egos believe themselves to be morally and spiritually superior, they will come up with all sorts of stories and machinations to stay in control.
Sorry folks, you're not Jesus and Mary Magdelene. You're just playing into the illusion you claim to transcend, by buying into another storyline illusion to replace the old one.

The truth is, as you pointed out, that spirituality is often a trap, just like materialism is. They are no different in how easily they can blind souls.
One of the greatest pitfalls of "spirituality" is pride. It is an ENTIRELY different pride than most people can recognize, and therefore they go on thinking they are becoming more and more selfless, when in reality, they are serving their Ego more than anything else.
Making claims like you are Jesus, God, One with the Universe, etc etc can all be dangerous just like anything else, because this universe is SOOOOO huge, and here you are, once again, thinking about YOU.
It was never about YOU. It never will be. THAT is what leads to enlightenment, or a real, heightened awareness. When you stop thinking of Self, and instead learn to experience this Universe without Self. Then you are moving towards a more spiritual existence.
