Bright Green 'Shooting Star'
Heading west on OK Highway 51 in Tulsa, OK about an hour ago, I saw a very, very bright green light shoot straight down from the sky. It looked like it was about half of the size of the moon, and directly below it. Did anybody else see anything like this?

Re: Bright Green 'Shooting Star'
I saw a massive fireball in the sky about 8 months earlier.

It was flying low, maybe 300-400m above the tree line.

It was at night but the heat it emitted made it bright enough to see the trail of smoke behind it.

It was slow moving as well.

Re: Bright Green 'Shooting Star'
My friend who was driving didn't see it, and I just screamed "HOLY SH*T, WHAT THE F*CK!" I was freaking out. It happened so fast, but we were out in the country so there is no way it could have been a reflection of any sort. Oddly enough it happened as our conversation about religion strayed to Ancient Aliens.

Last week, in Nebraska. I'm too paranoid to say where. =P

Yeah, exactly what you described.

Was at the ER with mom to take care of grammy....went out for a smoke, and the SECOND we had sat down in the car to smoke...Bam. Lasted only a second, but was quite bright and yes, about half the size to full size of a full moon.

We both just gaped wide eyed at each other.

The leonids were last week *shrug*. It still didn't seem...gawd I don't want to say natural.....but yeah...it didn't seem natural. I realize that may sound stupid, but it just didn't look...right. I don't know. I wish I could say more about it, other than thank you two (so far-I haven't read ahead) for verifying what I saw..

Provided YOU'RE telling the truth..

damn this site and it's paranoia mongering. =P

I can about guarantee you that we didn't see hack your mind and post about something you saw last week :). I've ready about "green flashes" around the moon, but all of those seem to appear like they are coming out of the moon. This definitely behaved like a shooting star, but dropped straight down, and was green. I saw close to the same thing 3 weeks ago in Stillwater, OK, facing east, except the light was white, not green.

What's amazing is how a meteor could be made of copper, pure enough to burn bright green. There were two satt's that collided a while back, perhaps this was space debris.

Sounds really interesting ... can't say as I've ever seen a green "shooting star" (for want of a better description).. the normal bright ball moving across the sky with a growing tail of debris as it moves, is the best I've seen, and I've only seen those a few times in my life.

What you are describing is totally new to me.. didn't know there could be a green "shooting star".

Gotta wonder what would generate that.

But yeah bright green (bright in luminosity, not hue; it was the colour of metal burning) like when a blue flame gets even hotter and turns green. or whatever, maybe different alloys, I don't care. Whatever. Anyway, it was huge though. Ahem, sorry..I'm not opie, but my experience seems to have ridden abreast of his/hers.

Funny thing, I'm sitting right here with a high def camera. For the next 45 days, there is a window open for anniversary quake in the pacific northwest.

I'm going to do my damnedest to capture it on video.

70% of Canada's major quakes happen on the west coast, at night, and in the fall winter. I'm going to capture it.

It was definitely bigger than a shooting star. "Shooting Star" is just the best way I could describe it, because it was so brief, but also very visible. The fact that it dropped straight down toward the earth, rather than across the sky is what threw me off.

I work at the Ontario international airport in CA. And I saw what seamed to be a shooting bright green star but this one like many people have said shot straight down to the earth. I couldn't explain it because this thing was Huge! No shooting star I've EVER seen had looked like that. And just about maybe 10 mins ago on the drive home I saw another one this one was BIGGER! OMG totally freaked out because of the size and i could see it perfectly!!!!!!

Re: Bright Green 'Shooting Star'
Apparently I'm not the only one who saw this in Oklahoma, I found a couple other websites where people were reporting the same exact thing at the same time. After doing more research I'm convinced that it was a meteorite with a high amount of Nickel (burns green in the atmosphere), cool thing is they only account for 1-5% of meteorites, so it was a pretty rare thing to see. They're common with certain types of asteroids, and 2010 JK1 and 2007 VB188 are passing by today, so it's probably just fragments of them.

about 5 years ago, sitting on my balcony at about 3 am having a smoke, i saw a traffic light green "shooting star" moving horizontally west to east. seemed to be below cloud cover, but there was really nothing to scale it against size or distance wise. horizon to horizon in just about a second. seen red ones, blue ones, yellow ones, that was my only green one so far
