| mxp27824 User ID: 28445090 11/25/2012 09:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This looks absolutely first class! When you think of the fantastic games that precede this (Elite and Frontier), you have to wonder how Braben & co. are going to push the boundaries back this time, but I know they will! Let's get it funded! |

That would prove to the publshers that they had it wrong, if two gaming legends got back into the mix(Chris Roberts for SC & David Braben for ED) via crowdfunding and succeeded, that is huge. Plus, Elite Dangerous will be just as good as Star Citizen in its own slightly different way. |

The best thing about its predecessor, Frontier, was the scope. 20 years ago it gave a whole galaxy to explore. This time Frontier Developments are promising 100,000,000,000 star systems. You could spend forever playing, if you wanted to, and barely scratch the surface, exploration wise. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 28447495 11/25/2012 11:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've backed Star Citizen and Elite. Elite formed part of my childhood, and made me a fan of the whole sci-fi genre, through games like Freelancer, Dark Star One and all of the X Universe series I've found myself try to recapture the feeling the original Elite game gave me. Elite Dangerous has been worked on in the background for years, its never come out of the shadows because perception was that the era of PC Space Sims is over, with crowdfunding we can prove them wrong. So let's unite and get behind them both and prove the f**kers wrong! |

| Rogue User ID: 28444771 11/25/2012 11:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is awesome news!! Played a lot of Elite and Frontier back in the day. When David Braben and Ian Bell first brought out Elite in 1984 in changed everything, the first fully 3D Game and first open sandbox game to do what you wanted in. The Grand-daddy of space sims. I've been lamenting the rise of consoles and publishers lack of belief in space sims for years. SC proved the market is there and hungary. I will buy SC and am now backing Elite:Dangerous I hope all you PC space sim enthusiasts do the same. Braben and his Frontier development company also intend to role it out on multiple platforms given enough funding so no excuse for you consolers not to get involved. This game promises a whole beautifully rendered galaxy to explore and seamless landing on planets as well as support for single player & multiplayer (both open and in controlled groups). Well I'm excited. [link to www.kickstarter.com] Another promising space sim worth checking out is 'Limit Theroy'. This is being done by a promising young college student. | Anonymous Coward User ID: 28445090 11/25/2012 11:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My personal experience with eve follows..... Having played EVE online and wasted a fair amount of time and money in the process I can conclusively say that Elite is an entirely different, far more immersive and massively more involving experience. EVE in my opinion suffers from the whole point and click gameplay mechanic and combat has no real immediacy. I think EVEs strength is in it's social medium, corporations and their members create the dynamic that makes EVE really successful. Elite is probably closer to playing an RPG where you define your campaign objectives, where you decide on your success levels and ultimately where you become the central character in your story. Unlike EVE it does not take being part of a corp nor does it take days upon days of upskilling, grinding away mining and attempting to decipher the vast spreadsheets of the trading/manufaturing/supply/demand systems. Elite has an immediacy that EVE can't touch IMO. EVE is damn pretty, has some great imagination put into its environments but ultimately in my eyes and my experience doesn't allow for my individual experience to be overly special. |

This latest video in the asteroid field looks amazing - really nice to see some in game footage to silence the critics that David Braben isn't 100% serious about making this game fantastic. Looking forward to seeing more footage soon and supporting the funding of this game via Kickstarter: [link to www.kickstarter.com] Cant wait to play the game as well in 2014, next year is going to be one long year! |

But anyone who cant wait till 2014 should try out Evochron Mercenary, I am playing it for a few days now and its exactly what Elite 4 wants to be, it even has gas giants where you can fly through the clouds. |

If you want to see a next generation space sim with an enitre galaxy rendered in real time (no loading screens anywhere) this what you will want to buy ! anything else is just out dated technically. Although this is not coming out for a while this is the game that will revolutionise space sims. There is no other game that will come close to it once released. [link to www.infinity-universe.com] Tech video of real time galaxy ingame You do realize you've just done more harm to Infinity than good right? I intend to back Inifnity as it offers a different perspective on the genre, but graphically apart from maybe the disc around the planet the rest looks sub-par graphically to Elite:Dangerous so far. Watch the Elite:dangerous and full screen and pay attention to the star fields... What's so revolutionary about those planets? I don't see an atmosphere as you do already in E:D (with the cloud generation and dev video 1) and the videos you show the planets to resemble marble more than anything right now, which is something David Braben is trying to avoid. We're going to get more information and more videos in the next 38 days or so, perhaps they will show us more, but based on what I have seen of Elite it really seems the only way we could ever replace Elite was with another Elite. As I said I want to back Infinity and will, but its best to let it stand on its own merits without unjustly taking a stab at a project we already have a launch date for made by someone and a company with real history and experience. |
| Lazlo Woodbine User ID: 25997544 11/26/2012 09:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As good as Star Citizen and Infinity look, and will hopefully play, there will only ever be one Elite. Games companies have been trying for years, with superior technology to better Elite and Frontier, but nothing I've ever played has even come close. There's something special that those games had that has proven extremely difficult to replicate. I'm not even sure the new Elite: Dangerous will better its own previous incarnations, but I'm certainly willing to put some money towards the attempt. |
