Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21064440 Please someone can respond to this friend question? Thank's! hard to tell since the map is not zoomed in, but concord looks like it's in the 3-5" rain total range (over 5 days) here's MSM on what's in store for the BAY AREA (northern california is another story): A series of powerful rainstorms is expected to hit the Bay Area beginning Wednesday morning, dumping up to 8 inches of rain on parts of the region, a National Weather Service forecaster said. The storms will start around the time of the morning commute Wednesday and continue through the weekend, bringing winds of 40 to 50 mph and 1 to 3 inches of rain to most parts of the Bay Area, forecaster Steve Anderson said. “This is certainly the biggest storm of the season so far,” Anderson said. “Typically, we get our big rain events in December and January.” The rainfall will be most intense in the North Bay, where 2 to 3 inches of rain are expected in lowlands and as many as 8 inches in the hills, Anderson said. “It’s mostly going to be a North Bay event, the heaviest rainfall,” Anderson said. Smaller creeks in the North Bay are likely to fill to bank level, although the larger Russian and Napa rivers “don’t seem to be getting too out of hand,” he said. Streets throughout the Bay Area will be soaked, and fallen leaves from trees are expected to clog storm drains, so some roads and intersections will see some flooding and the usual traffic delays, Anderson said. Bay Area residents should also get ready for possible downed trees and power outages. Fifteen- to 18-foot waves are expected along the coast during the stormy weather, he said. It started to rain here a little on Sunday and have had some good downpours Monday and today. I should check out the satellite radar to see what's up. Image: [link to www.nws.noaa.gov] Not too bad now. However, it looks like California is in for a lot of flooding. Full moon on Wednesday will create high tides. Earthquake window for the next 4-6 days. With this much precipitation there is likely to be mud slides by the weekend. Having lived in California for 50 years and lived through the '89 quake - not too worried about quakes. More concerned about mudslides closing down highways and flooding. LA never was the best when it came to a lot of water being primarily in drought most of the time. I pity the Highway patrol as the roads will be slick along with a high volume of drivers on packed freeways with folks not used to driving in the rain. Usually, Central Valley (Bakersfield on up to Modesto) ends up being filled with fog when the weather gets cold and tends to be notorious for mega car pile-ups. Also TWS is on it - The ARKstorm was what would be predicted as a major rainfall event that would consist of a lot of snowfall in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, followed by a tropical air mass that melts all the snow. Such a scenario might actually be coming, with the first round hitting on Wednesday, then Thursday into Friday, another on Saturday, and then lasting through Sunday as well. A full five days worth of heavy rainfall in Northern and Central California. This will bring heavy mountain snow to the higher elevations, but below 8,000 feet it should be all rain. This will melt a lot of the snow that is already up there and cause major flooding in the Central Valley zones. [link to www.theweatherspace.com] |
