This is what people did before SANDY, and told everyone it was NO BIG DEAL, and now lots of people are homeless, and still flooded, and IT WAS A BIG DEAL.

Unless you are willing to put them up at your house when they get flooded or trees blown onto their houses, STFU!

Back in 1978 Folsom Lake was nearly dry (1M acre foot lake). "They" said it would take years to refill to capacity. It took exactly three weeks.

The old bridge crossing the American River canyon is pretty high above the river but it was submerged under 42ft. of water.

I live by Folsom Lake on the western side of it, Placer County. The rain we have already had has my grounds wet, still. I am looking at ground that is primarily dg , decomposed granite, which drains really well, but when it gets too wet it has the same problems that other types of soils exerience earlier.

My neighbor who built on my other property covered the hill with concrete and provided no drainage so we are worried that all that water is going to cascade down the road above us and down across our granite escarpments and overwhelm our drainage. So, we brought home a pump to, hopefully, address that. Wish us well, please.

Where is HERE that you are referring to? The storm is affecting from Monterey county to southern Oregon. For some reason you think your stupid little town in some valley near Sacramento is the only place affected? You've not travelled out of Sacramento much if you don't think there are rock slides in California!!! And I'm not giving away the town I'm in. I'm in Monterey county.

It's not as rare as you think. This happens here often. We usually get A LOT o winter rain. The last few years have been very dry for the Central Valley.

The first storm will move into the area Today. Several stronger storms will impact the region Thursday through Sunday. The first system will bring strong southerly winds and moderate to locally heavy rainfall and heavy snow in the Mount Shasta area above 4500 feet. Strong winds could make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. 3 to 5 inches of rain is expected for many locations west of the Cascades through Thursday, with more than 10 inches expected by Sunday morning in some areas. This will increase flooding potential by the end of the week. Remember, if you come to a flooded roadway, turn around...don't drown. I'm expecting to lose power. Very few other local hazards here, we are 50 feet or more above the creek, and this land is stable.

We be getting the wetsuits on and waxing up the boards.
Some nice waves going to come from all of this.

This is indeed a rare event. It is what is called an Arkstorm because of the amount of rainfall/snowfall that the area can potentially receive. Just because your whole life has been mundane does not mean that it can't change in an instant. Yes “THE SKY IS FALLING!” “THE SKY IS FALLING!!” lmao the majority of you here on GLP will grab at any straw to make DOOM out of a mole hill….and if you live in Monterey County in a Rockslide area, that is your own dumb luck..no one asked you people to build houses on the side of sheer cliffs right next to the costal shelf of the country. It does not take a structural engineer to tell you that you are inviting disaster building in that area. In fact you have been warned for years that the areas you are building on are very unstable and could go at any time; if it takes a few days of rain to make you wake up than you are already a lost cause.

Everyone knew Sandy was coming and that it would be a devastating super storm. Completely different.
It was forecast for days in advance and warnings were given.

Winds have begun to increase along the west side of the San Joaquin Valley ahead of the storm system that is expected to move over the area during the day on Wednesday. Southerly winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph will likely continue into the afternoon hours.
