Palo Alto is about 30 miles south of San Francisco and 20 miles north of San Jose, in the flood plain located on the eastern slope of the Pacific Coast range on the west side of SF Bay.

Many tiny creeks form in the mountains, flow downhill, and combine to form a small number (4-5) large creeks (basically rivers at that point) that flow through Palo Alto before emptying into the bay.

Rainfall Foothills Park (about 1000 feet elevation) is shown in the graph below the monitoring images.
