I am Danish on my dad's side (many family members are still in Denmark). We have been traced, genetically, as the most "authentic" line to the Vikings, whatever that means. My husband is British/German. When we go camping and hiking he has this attitude that he just needs to outrun me. I, on the other hand, stand my ground and fight. That's not always such a good thing. I remember once in Philadelphia when we were first married. Some burglars were robbing a neighbor apartment and I came home and caught them at it. Rather than running, I chased them out - two black men and here I was, all blonde 5'9" 135 lbs as a 22 year old. I'm surprised I didn't get shot. This has happened on numerous occasions...I can't help myself but that I stay and fight rather than flee. People always say a smart person backs away from me when I get my hackles up because I'm coming after you full force. Interestingly, though, I'm also considered overly laid-back. My dad was the same - people didn't mess with him although he was also one of the most respected and consistent people in the area. |

Sure the Romans and the Vikings were badass but were eventually defeated and no longer exist as a warrior race. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24599086 It's got to be the Chinese, they have always had a powerful warrior ethos and even though they were occupied at times in the past, they never have been defeated. Thats why i posed the question because bias will always say they are best or we are best. But taking into account the factors its very difficult to pin down for example you say Chinese yes on the factor i posed both ancient and modern you have to say Chinese will definately be competing for title of top warrior race. But would you say Chinese were as pure badass as japanese i say not .plus Chinese have taken some collosul beastings and lost MILLIONS (IE MONGOLS ABSOLUTELY CRIMPED THE CHINESE BUT IN ONE OF THE ONLY REVERSALS THE MONGOLS SUFFERED THEY FELL AT THE HANDS OF THE JAPANESE OK A TYPHOON HELPED BUT SOME ACCOUNTS OF ACTUAL HAND TO HAND ILLUSTRATE THE JAPANESE GIVE MONGOLS SOMETHIN TO THINK ABOUT NOT MANY HAVE DONE THAT)Chinese have had one thing others apart from India have NUMBERS ! ! !! ! So yes Chinese have taken some kickass beastings |

The Spartans are overrated. The Zulus were just pissy tribesmen. Quoting: DarthDickheadus:AmericanSith So, I'd say the Boers would be among the toughest. Not technically a race, but then again, neither were the Spartans. In reality, the Spartans had their ass saved more times than not by the Athenian citizen soldiers. You do know who won the Peloponnesian War? |

OK a point of interest for you having Danish genes ever heard of the word 'beserk'? "Hes gone beserk",it comes from the elite mad warrior class amongst the vikings called beserkers who psyched themselves into 'battle frenzy'almost trance like state of madness it was like DOOONT STAND IN THE WAY OF A BESERKER EVEN IF YOU KNOW THEM because they were ready to die or kill. [link to en.wikipedia.org] "Berserkers (or berserks) were Norse warriors who are reported in the Old Norse literature to have fought in a nearly uncontrollable, trance-like fury, a characteristic which later gave rise to the English word berserk. Berserkers are attested to in numerous Old Norse sources. Most historians believe that berserkers worked themselves into a rage before battle, but some think that they might have consumed drugged foods. The Úlfhéðnar (singular Úlfhéðinn), mentioned in the Vatnsdœla saga, Haraldskvæði and the Völsunga saga, were said to wear the pelt of a wolf when they entered battle.[1] Úlfhéðnar are sometimes described as Odin's special warriors, with the pelt from a wolf and a spear as distinguishing features.[2]" |

Yeah and lack of money they were penniless after they paid of the Huns and Germans to stop invading the empire.Plus as you say the leadership was appalling Ceasar,Constantine,Belaisarurius must have turned in their graves. |

The Chinese have never been defeated? The Chinese have a powerful warrior ethos? Obviously you have not read much Chinese history. The Chinese have been defeated many times, the last Chinese Dynasty, the Manchu, was not Chinese, it was Manchurian and had seized the throne through conquest. The Mongels invaded and conquered China. Hell, the Vietnamese militia was more than a match for the PLA in the 1979 Sino-Vietnamese War. To be blunt, historically the professional soldier has been despised in Chinese culture, it was only with the PLA that some of this animosity has abated. It wasn't Chinese force of arms that saved Chinese culture, it was the fact that all the invaders were total barbarians and wanted to live in the advanced society the Chinese created, not destroy it. It was the same in the western Roman Empire, the invaders tried to preserve what they could because it was the most advanced civilisation in the World. |

Anyway, a real answer would be if you're just doing complete racially is a bit skewed because modern groups of races have probably been assimilated and 'moved' on so to say to different regions of the world so they only ever existed for one time. Currently Americans are the best and we're not a race, neither were the Romans, but they were the best for their era. Nor the huns, not to mention the scale is a bit fucked to measure people like the chinese and africans because they only fight with themselves but have been very bad ass. |
