Penny and Nickel Coins to be Phased Out in 2013

We got rid of them 20 years ago. They're no longer in circulation but they're still legal tender.

Me too. I estimate my net worth at about 35 trillion dollars. So doubt they'll ever do me much good. But I'll have ALL the money eventually.

Roll them by hand? What the? We just take coins into the bank, they count it for us by weighing it.

We round up or down. 3 cents becomes 5 cents. 7 cents becomes 5 cents. Etc. if you're paying with card then there is no need to round off.

Take it to your own bank where they will count it for nothing on their coin machine.

I would like to apologize for all of us stupid Americans! We will through pennies on the ground but then can't figure out how we would handle not having them.

Just like the half penny before. If you were at a store and the cashier said comes to $1.505 you would be like wtf! I'll give you the $1.50, so it will be the same with a full penny soon enough.

Yes, U.S. banks put them in a machine and sort and count them. If you have an account with a bank they do it for free. I don't know why anyone would pay those CoinStar machines. Most banks won't take them if they are rolled. That rolling idea always seemed stupid to me. Think how easy it was to add objects that were same size as the coins in that paper roll. metal washers, buttons, etc.

Sadly, a lot of people don't know or comprehend that SkewNews, the Onion, and others are parodies or satire, and they take it as gospel truth. so I understand your frustration and rant about morans. But, the penny-nickle issue was also in Wall Street Journal.

of course mainstream media is just as much of a joke and parody as Skew News or the Onion, so that doesn't actually help much. :)

story I read earlier today said that they are going to start in 2013 making the coins out of stainless steel, because they cost to much now.

If they are going to remove them from circulation, then it is to inflate prices....make everything cost more, probably

they all add up.
Besides, they have "In God We Trust" stamped on them....shouldn't throw that away.
