I so admired her, but when she was on tv, I felt this is the way it would end. What a brave soul she is! She can move on knowing she fought the good fight. Rest in peace.:jhk:

How tragic and sad, blessings to her three children, they can stand proud knowing their mother tried to make a difference.

Sadly, it was only a matter of time that the US Drug Wars would cause things like this to happen.

Legalize drugs, control and tax them, take them out of the hands of the Mexican Drug Lords and watch them wilt.

Instead we have the Bush and Obama administrations both supporting shit like Fast 'n' Furious to arm these criminals who are taking over Mexico.

Some Americans do have blame here. That would be the shitheads who are allegedly our political leaders.

they dont kill because it's illegal, they kill fir marketshare because it's so profitable because gringos need their buzz.

You pay them, so they kill people for you and get in the way.

yea cause white people are the only ones who do drugs. and dont try shoving numbers in my face. there are more whites so obviously more of them are doing drugs.

and isn't it strange that there are way less blacks but they are the highest numbers in the prison populations?

WTF does THAT tell you?

that maybe they commit most of the crimes?

A common fantasy of stoners whose ability to think has been eroded by marijuana use. The cartels aren't limited to just one kind of crime. They wouldn't "wilt" if marijuana was legalized.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28348384

It's really quite simply.

Drug cartels and gangs (it's in the name of one of the groups FFS) grow and develop through the sale of ILLEGAL drugs.

Why must this be done through illegal drugs?

Well for one, illegal drugs have a highly inflated street price compared to legal drugs of a similar cost to cultivate.

Gangs and cartels make ALL of their money by selling drugs. If it wasn't for illegal drugs they would run out of money, immediately.

Consider that during the 1980s, an ounce of heroin sold in Afghanistan for $5 sold in NYC for over $2,000. Today it's still pretty close to those numbers although I think the price for an ounce of heroin has dropped to well under $2,000 but still over a thousand.

Need I make our point any more clear?

For the sake of education I think I will continue on.

High drug prices DIRECTLY CAUSE violent crime. For example, if a person is addicted to cocaine, and they needtheir daily fix but do not have the money to purchase it, what do you think they are going to do?

Well of course they are going to rob and steal as it is the only way to immediately access enough money to get the drugs he or she needs.

If people would mind their own business, and let the coke addict do as he pleases, the legal price of cocaine would probably allow this individual to afford his habit without HARMING OTHERS.

90% of VIOLENT CRIME IS DRUG RELATED.

ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT SOUGHT AFTER DRUGS ARE ILLEGAL.

This is so terrible - I remember watching her being interviewed when she first took office and thinking her so brave but worried at how she could possibly survive the violence of the cartels. Very sad.

The vast majority of their profits come from drug trafficking. There is no denying this. It's the most economically efficient way to make profits. Try replicating the profits from drug smuggling by resorting to extortion/kidnappings/other types of vice. It can't be done. Drugs are too lucrative.

We already have legalized drugs friend. What do you call cigarettes, alcohol, and a never-ending supply of prescription painkillers and psychotropic anti-depressants???

The issue is that the government willingly chooses which drugs the public gets access too, some of which create much harm and destruction, while simultaneously trying to tell the public that other drugs are prohibited and that they can't have access to them. No rational system of operation can be based on hypocrisy & contradiction. Either ban all drugs or allow access to all of them. Can't have it both ways.
