Grocery Delivery Service in Houston Accepts EBT & Lone Star Card
I was behind the van in the photo in the link below this morning:

[link to i.imgbox.com]

According to what is written on the back of the van, they accept EBT and Lone Star card. If you can afford the fee for a grocery delivery service, which I assume is not covered by EBT or Lone Star, then why can't you afford to buy your own groceries without the help of welfare? If grocery delivery fees are covered by EBT or Lone Star then it needs to stop. Having groceries delivered to your house is a luxury.

And before somebody says that some people on Lone Star and/or EBT are old and can't get around or are disabled, there are already services in Houston that deliver groceries to people like that and those services are paid for with donations rather than with the taxpayer funded dole.

If you have money to pay a grocery delivery fee then you could take the bus, that you get to ride on for "free" or at a very discounted rate thanks to the fact that bus fare is subsidized in Houston for poor people and disabled people who qualify for gov assistance, to the grocery store and apply the fee money to your grocery bill.

How pissed were you when the membership clubs like Costco started accepting foodstamps?

Be careful, at this rate you might have a heart attack.

Costco doesn't deliver to your house. If they did and the person on food stamps could afford to pay the delivery fee then they don't need food stamps. If they have money for a delivery fee then they can afford to put that money towards their grocery bill rather than getting groceries at the expense of others. That is the difference between the situation you listed and paying a grocery delivery fee. Costco isn't a luxury. Having groceries delivered to your house is.

It makes sense to shot at Costco if you are on the dole. That is how you stretch other peoples dollars. It makes no sense to use a grocery delivery service if you are on the dole though because it's a luxury having your groceries delivered to your house AND more importantly groceries will also cost more when you buy them through a delivery service so by doing so you aren't stretching the dollars that have been given to you courtesy of taxpayers as far as you could. Not being able to manage money is the #1 cause of poverty and buying groceries though a delivery service when you are on the dole an allegedly broke is a prime of example of poor money management skills.

But those dirty filthy eaters had to buy a membership card to Costco and it was with your money. That's okay with you? Memberships are just fine for money that was supposed to go JUST to utilities and rent?? Next you'll be saying it's okay if they get HBO and Showtime for Christ sake, you fucking bleeding heart.

Whats wrong with accepting these cards? Should this store be sanctioned for playing by the rules? Or are you saying that these poor folks that most likely are without a car in Houston (grew-up on the Westside, almost impossible without a car there) should carry the groceries a mile home in 95 degree weather? How do you live in Houston Tx with a fucked-up attitude like that?

I predict you'll loose your job & transportation next summer and need public assistance to survive. Think of it as a time for personal growth.

Those dirty filthy eaters as you call them chose to purchase the membership card to shop at Costco. Walmart charges nothing to shop there. Nobody held a gun to their heads and made them buy a membership card to Costco.

I have never been on the dole in any form in my life and I don't even own a TV and haven't in years. If it's good enough for me to not have a TV and cable it's good enough for people on the dole. They should be putting the money they use for cable towards necessities like groceries. Having a TV and cable is a luxury just like having your groceries delivered t your house is. If you can afford either then you can afford to not be on the dole.

Metro has tons of bus stops where this photo was snapped at so no excuse. Lots of people ride the bus in this area. Metro offers reduced and even free fares to people who qualify. If you are on the dole then you no doubt qualify for a reduced or free fare: [link to www.metro.net]

If you can afford a grocery delivery fee then you can afford reduced fare on Metro which I guarantee is less than the grocery delivery fee.

It's cheaper to shop at Walmart then it is to buy your groceries from a delivery service. If you are broke and trying to stretch the dollars that have been given to you then it makes sense to buy your groceries at the cheapest place and a grocery delivery service isn't it.

Why do you think the poor should deplete their local communities further by shopping at Walmart and thus creating more local poor for you to whine about when it seems like you don't like them to begin with (then why create more?)?

Come to think of it, that looked like a local owned store delivery van. Are you a mega-corporate shill or just a Walmart one?

You obviously have poor reading comprehension skills. The delivery fee isn't covered by EBT or Lone Star. The person having groceries delivered has to pay that fee out of pocket. If they have money to pay a grocery delivery fee they have money to apply to their grocery bill rather than using EBT or Lone Star to pay for groceries.

And you are a troll. I haven't set foot in Walmart in years. I used Walmart as an example because you mentioned Costco which is a reference to stores that charge membership fees. Walmart is the same as Sams Club which charges a membership fee. Understand now?

And shopping at Sams Club and Costco is not cheaper than shopping at Walmart. Again I mention Walmart since it has the same merchandise as Sams Club which charges a membership fee. Prices are exactly the same at walmart and Sams Club if you break the bulk items down price per item. People just think they are getting a deal because they don't do math. In reality they are just buying more of something for the same price they would have paid had they gone to walmart (no membership required) and purchased the same number of items separately.

I don't shop at Walmart because I don't like crowds and long lines. They also never had in stock when I needed the last few times I went in so I stopped going. I shop at locally owned grocery stores that have prices that are on par with walmart. People on the dole can do the same.

I already addressed this issue. Maybe if I type it in all caps time it will help you to understand.

PURCHASING A MEMBERSHIP TO COSTCO IS A CHOICE. NOBODY HAS TO SHOP AT COSTCO. PURCHASING A MEMBERSHIP TO COSTCO OR SAMS CLUB IS THE SAME AS PAYING A DELIVERY FEE FOR GROCERIES. BOTH THE MEMBERSHIP AND THE DELIVERY FEE ARE LUXURIES. NEITHER IS A NECESSITY AND YOU SAVE MONEY BY NOT USING EITHER.

Poor people may not have vehicles, cheaper to pay delivery than payment, gas, insurance.

Also, maybe charity vehicles don't service an old or disabled poor persons area or perhaps they had a problem with one of the people working for the charity org.

Stop judging, you ignoramus. Other peoples problems are going to ruin your health if you keep trying to solve mysteries that are none of your business. And, yes, even with EBT, it's none of your business--put that it your ass and fart!

And this is my problem since the money the gov extorts from me in the form of taxes that is then used to fund programs that I do not qualify for an have never qualified for is my business. Any time my property is being stolen its my business where the property ends up at.

So, you're upset because you think that the ability to pay for a delivery fee out of pocket, which I agree it would probably have to come out of pocket, precludes being poor enough to justify being on food stamps. Alright then, explain please how on the flipside of that argument, you would presumably be okay with them having enough resources to have a car, insurance for said car, money for gas, and maintenance. Which is more? The delivery fee presumably every couple weeks or every month... or the upkeep of a car they'd have to have to not pay a delivery fee?

I was excited when I came across this site. I am disabled and can only walk 180 feet before my breath goes. I don't care what store the food comes from as long as I can access it. I have no friends/family that can do my shopping for me. I am saddened by the viscous posts I read. I do need a double lung transplant as of several years ago but I am going with ethics, I don't want to live on someone else's dime longer than I have to. There are no transportation services unless you are wheel chair bound.

So what.If they use EBT they probably dont have gas to go shopping. So rather than pay a bit for delivery they should jump on public transportation.God these people like you that nit pick at everything drive me half crazy.
I guess you hate Schwans home foods too since they take the same payment methods.

Good God.Thread fail.

People on the dole get use of the bus system for free here. And I already addressed the issue of elderly and disabled people and grocery delivery services. There are organizations here that operate via donations that deliver groceries to the elderly and disabled.

And this is my problem since the money the gov extorts from me in the form of taxes that is then used to fund programs that I do not qualify for an have never qualified for is my business. Any time my property is being stolen its my business where the property ends up at.

Start down this list and just pretend all that huge amount of money you pay in taxes providing you dont get a refund covers one of these items then you wont have to worry about who pays for EBT

Re: Grocery Delivery Service in Houston Accepts EBT & Lone Star Card
Some neighborhoods in some cities do not have a grocery store a person can get to by bus. Grocery delivery is not more expensive than cab fare or gas station groceries.

For all we know the Store waives its delivery fee for ebt customers and tales a tax writeoff while enjoying the advertising as Cash customers see the van and call the number.

Nothing is uglier than people going popeyed with indignation at the imagined luxurious lives led by the dependent poor.

churchlady "Count your blessings!"
Seriously, I bet people in those ghettos would love to stroll through the air conditioned grocery store all afternoon, thumbing the magazines, smelling the flowers, looking at the girls by the freezer cases...

Envy is a peculiar and terrible thing...
