Texas Schools Teaching Boston Tea Party As Terrorist Act
HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – The most historical instance of protesting against taxation without representation is now being taught in Texas schools as a terrorist act.

As recently as January of this year, the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative included a lesson plan that depicted the Boston Tea Party, an event that helped ignite the American Revolution, as an act of terrorism. TheBlaze reports that in a lesson promoted on the TESCCC site as recently as January, a world history/social studies class plan depicted the Boston Tea Party as being anything but patriotic, causing many people to become upset with the lack of transparency and review for lessons.

Well Boston was a city in the British colony of Massachusetts, so technically politically correct, yes it was terrorism.

You could even call the Sons of Liberty guerrillas, politically correctnessly.

a terrorist act is an act of criminality or violence that aims to further a political, religious, or sectarian agenda. the boston tea party was both criminal, and violent, and perpetrated toward the furtherance of a political agenda. it was indeed "terrorism". the term terrorist stems from the american revolution. it has nothing to do with political correctness, it's factual history. the founding fathers were terrorist leaders. the minute men were terrorist "muscle". the terms and definitions fit perfectly.

Being able to consider moral relativism is important in life: one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.

Teaching dogmatic "truths" (or that there are absolute rights and wrongs) to kids is both naive and a true disservice to the kids.

NO.

There is "truth", fortunately there are many like you that are more than happy to pretend that there is not. Very useful.

This particular event could only be correctly be described as a "terrorist act" if, for example, a ship in the harbour was blown up due to non-British forces specifically targeting and killing civilians (men, women, children) for political gain.

Technically, it could be called "economic terrorism" at best.

It does matter because kids are influenced by what their teachers say and for whatever reasons some kids may tend to believe teachers over their own parents. "Give me the child until he is seven and I care not who has him thereafter."

Our current history curriculum across the country is all liberal clap-trap.

How is throwing tea into the harbor equivalent to blowing people up?

It is all just nuts and an attempt to villify our founding generation for their protests and eventual revolution.

Somehow our schools have changed from teaching History to teaching "Social Studies" and what passes for history texts are laughable.

CSCOPE is finally under a microscope. State lawmakers are getting involved. There is hope. On the flip side Obama's administration is also looking at CSCOPE, but for a very different reason. If he has his way, this will no longer be about Texas schools alone.

This is correct.

And from our perspective as Americans, these acts of terrorism were a good thing, as they eventually led to the overthrow of British tyranny.

By the same token, whenever they talk about John Brown in history classes, they usually overlook the fact that he too was a terrorist and, more specifically, a religious fanatic.

Since being an abolitionist is seen as a good thing, this is often downplayed, but by technical definition, that's what he was.

We don't have to white wash history. And terrorism and fanatic does not always = bad in the historical sense. One must put it all in perspective.

You indeed are brainwashed if you believe the entire scope of terrorism is "blowing people up".

There are many forms of terrorism, as terrorism isn't a word used to define the act of "blowing people up", but rather as a word to describe an act that incorporates violence and/or intimidation to achieve some political or other means.

While I wouldn't call the boston tea party a terorrist act, as it wasn't intended to terrorize , but rather to make a statement, I guess I see where they are going with it.

Let me reiterate, I wouldn't call it terrorism myself.

That's a values-free interpretation, made by a moral coward.

Under your way of thinking, someone who shoots a clerk dead in a holdup is the same as a cop who shoots a kidnapper dead who was in the act of raping a child.
