Okay, but to be clear, it's the big pharma prescription drugs that are causing the health risk, not the grapefruit. If Western doctors didn't turn their noses up at thousands of years of history as well as research on natural treatments, they wouldn't be pumping their patients full of poorly researched man-made poisons.

Correct! We are in the 1984 world of doublespeak. The title MSM is promoting is that grapefruit is the problem! LOL!

Eat nutritious food. Don't put chemicals in your body. End of story.

.. Good evening meal ....
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28525953

Frequently people combine dangerous food and drugs and put their health and sometimes their lives at risk. In most cases they are not aware of the problem that some medications and foods cannot be mixed, since many of these same medications and foods seem harmless when taken alone.
Quoting: smilesun

Yes, smilesun. I think it's important for people to look at natural medicine realistically and understand that some of what we consider food in the West are actually also traditional medicines in other parts of the world. These people aren't superstitious and these foods/medicines need to be treated with respect. Most notably the common and not so common spices we use are strongly represented by plant extracts that have known medicinal effects.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27636366

Yes, AC, which is why I will not take any man made medications. If I can't cure it using natural means, then I will die naturally. I have no problem with that.

Like Monsanto, pharmaceutical drugs interfere with the natural course of nature. They invariably, and I mean every time, have unintended and unknown side effects, hence the article. If you were to have a reaction because you unknowingly ate grapefruit, or even died, you would have no recourse. Your tough luck, eh? Same with vaccines.

A physician or pharmacist could not possibly warn you of all the dangers of any chemical prescribed, because they are not all known. Most pharmaceuticals, if tested properly at all, are only tested on a small population. The fact is, every body is different, and will react differently. Age, sex, weight, other health conditions, personal allergies, and so many other factors can and will drive the efficiency and the danger of the chemical your doctor prescribes for you.

This is true of reactions to natural foods, as well, but I'd rather take my chances with real food and learn for myself what my body can and cannot handle. I think you can either go with natural foods, understanding some are medicines (which I study), or go the chemical route. My choice is clear.

One-size-fits-all pharmaceuticals and vaccines are not a healthy idea.

This is not entirely correct. While big phrama produces some toxic 'Medicines' with more side effects than cures, grapefruit and specifically grapefruit juice can pose a dangerous risk for people on certain medications.

In the liver there are a group of enzymes called cytochrome p450 that break down substances (including medications) on their first pass through the liver. This occurrence is taken into account when prescribing a certain therapeutic doseof medication. What certain compounds within grapefruit juice do are inhibit or inactivate the cytochrome p450 enzymes so they they aren't able to break down the medication as it passes through the liver, thus increasing blood levels of the drug to possible toxic levels.

So yes, because of chemical interactions, grapefruit CAN be dangerous to people taking certain medications.

One day the grapefruit diet is the shit, next day they say it's dangerous - you see this over and over again with eggs, wine, red meat, white meat, oxygen ect.....

Does anyone get the impression that TPTB does not want anyone eating healthy ?

^^No one is villianizing grapefruit or healthy food. The article is stating that grapefruit is dangerous to people on certain medications because of the chemicals interactions that take place in the liver.

Quite a lot of info on grapefruit and grapefruit seed extract which is very good and anti inflammatory and deals with infections.

Once off my antibiotics will be taking it for my rheumatoid arthritis, will not be taking their big pharma meds. Currently taking 10 000 iu of Vit D, cod liver oil, and its helping too.

It seems they utlize the same passageways and they have deliberately taken away from the natural food you need to give them to their toxic solutions instead.

Grapefruit is a great P450 enzyme inhibitor, just like watercress...

It's a blood thinner, so if you already use statins AND Omega 3 AND ginkgo AND cayenne AND ginger

Since doctors don't have time to keep up with this (all that Obamacare paperwork plus they rely on drug reps to keep them informed and how likely are they to issue more warnings about their products?) it would be nice if pharmacies would include this on the warning/ifo sheets they provide with prescription drugs.

People don't get the fact that a inhibitor means that there is no harm!!!! It just prevent P450 to breakdown your medicaments in circulation, not all toxic.
If i used antioxidants or A-5 reductase inibitors as a drug prescriptions, clearly there is no drawbacks anyhow, but enhanced teraupetical effects.

Nature, holy nature!
I do not sit in a church to feel better about me. In walled rooms ... No! If i want to feel better I go in the nature, to a sea or a forest! That makes me happy. Nature gives me power and a pure feeling of life.
Churches are the cesspit of all the impurity that people gather voluntarily.

Water, trees and birds, they dont judge, they embrace you without expecting anything in return.
People go to church to feel accepted, and it works for some people; I have no problem with that. I just don't think that going to church is the right path for all people, that is why I cherish the ability to believe what I want. Don't hesitate to hold your own beliefs even if they do not coincide with the Bible.

i nvr liked grapefruit or it's juices..yuck...i suppose any fruit is better for you then prescriptions..just remember people are healthier w/the fruits that are local to your strain of dna's origin are best for your body..some fruits are quite poisonous- eating a banana w/o protein will flood your body w/potassium which will tire you and increase blood sugar quickly- the protein helps convert it to energy that you should use.

eating is a delicate balance one struggles with daily- too many breads, alcohols, and sugars can increase your fungal infestations(zits, mouth sores, infections, athlete's foot etc) ...this is what can lead to cancerous lesions or tumors as well as other things man made such as oils etc.

we do a lot more to hurt ourselves by eating let alone prescriptions etc

everyone take heed and care- it's your life in your hands!

However, the wide consumption of grapefruit juice cannot entirely be attributed to its taste, and nutritive value. In fact, much of the enthusiasm in its use stems from medical research that has suggested that grapefruit juice reduces atherosclerotic plaque formation and inhibits breast cancer cell proliferation and mammary cell tumorigenesis.. Traditionally grapefruit juice has been found to contain antioxidant, antinitrosaminic, antiseptic, aperitif, cardiotonic, detoxicant, hypocholesterolemic, sedative and stomachic activities. In the light of its above activities, it has been traditionally indicated throughout time for anorexia, bacteria, benign prostatic hypertrophy, cancers (breast, colon, prostate, lung, skin and throat), candida, cold, diabetes, dysuria, high cholesterol, infection, insomnia, mycobacterium, mycosis, nervousness, pseudomonas, rheumatism, staphylococcus and yeast.

However, as many as fifteen years ago, investigators found that grapefruit juice can markedly augment oral drug bioavailability

It is pretty funny how "research" has to be conducted in order to prove what has been proven again and again throughout history. It's also sick how many side effects these prescription drugs have (they solve one problem and create new ones) that might be even worse than what they're intended to treat in the first place. I avoid drugs as much as possible. Just stick to a healthy lifestyle and there shouldn't be all these health complications if you ask me.

I know a guy who is only 25 years old and is being put on medication... for HIGH CHOLESTEROL. He claims it is due to "family history of having heart attacks at in their 30s and 40s)." The reality? He is borderline obese, does not eat healthy, never exercises (stays on his computer all damn day), you get the picture. He claims he "watches what he eats" yet at the same time he "goes out to eat" a lot, probably to places like McDonald's and Burger King on a regular basis.

Bottom line: It is NOT healthy at all, or even natural, for people in their 20s, 30s, or even 40s to be having these kind of health problems! Makes you wonder about what is being put in food and the drugs people "have" to take to "solve" these issues...

Fruit may cause serious health problems in growing number of patients taking prescription drugsGrapefruit poses a potentially lethal health risk to increasing numbers of patients taking prescription drugs, experts have warned. The fruit contains chemicals that can interact with certain drugs, making them more potent. Adverse effects can include acute kidney failure, respiratory failure, internal bleeding and sudden death. While it is well known that some patients should avoid grapefruit, or grapefruit juice, the list of drugs involved has risen sharply in recent years.Between 2008 and 2012 the number of medications with the potential to cause serious harm by interacting with grapefruit increased from 17 to 43, according to scientists writing in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
