Besides the obvious damage/destruction from flooding, are there any nuclear power plants in that area? They always seem to be constructed right next to rivers, lakes, and the ocean.

the clouds being flung by that low pressure system are crazy

its gonna be raining for the rest of the week and probably into next week as well

Still no big rain, no storm, no flooding. Central California 30 miles south of Sacramento light drizzle and light wind.

I think this storm is overrated. It'll fizzle out by December 4 2012.

South Lake Tahoe here. Wind has been constantly blowing for hours now. Strong gusts. Shook the house a couple times. Probably a constant 25 to 30 mph with gusts to 60mph. Not much rain though. Won't get much snow either as its above 40 degrees right now. That is all.

Hey I was just there last weekend, thanks for the update. Its 60 degrees here, that's warm for a storm. Still raining hard with wind. It will take a few hours for the rain to get across the state.

Weather has been pretty stormy all day today only a few minor cases of flooding and one or two trees down in the entire town! We will see about the flooding issue as the week progresses, but it is certain this storm will not be as epic as many on this board are claiming..

I hope your right, I remember people in here in new york said when sandy was coming "Oh it won't be that bad" until the nighttime came in at the peak of the storm and all hell broke loose, The peak of the storm is not even there yet, the gfs run is showing that it will get there on december 2nd

this is so crazy everyone is saying what we said here in New York before Sandy hit which is "I think this storm is overrated" please even if it is take it serious. I got a bad feeling about this storm I really do

Any ideas or projections of what this storm may do when it enters the Rockies and/or crosses into the Plains next week?

I'm in Sacramento and it has been raining off and on since about seven o'clock this evening. My husband is in Ukiah and he says it poured all day there. It's a nice rain, kind of wind tossed and not too cold, there's a sort of friendly wildness to it. I'm loving it.

We're just north of Sacramento. It started drizzling around 5 pm. Its 11:30 now; no wind with very light rainfall.

We're prepared for the worst, whether we stay here or leave, but so far?

Moderate rain here in Sonoma County.... they say the worst is coming, but keep pushing back the time.

I spent the last two days cleaning my gutters and yard drains. (we tend to get some standing water during heavy rains) Come what may, we're ready here.... so far its pretty normal.

With a roar and roof rumbling the initial force of this storm has arrive, just an 1 1/2 north of Sacramento, at 11:15 pst our power went out for just a few minutes then restored and the wind hitting with a eerie sensation unfamiliar. We've has strong winds in the past, but this went from nearly no wind to 50~60mph rather quickly. Very little rain at this time.
Lights are still on, taking surveys outside I found a cotton tail hiding on our back porch.
Going to be a long nite.

Okay what I think because of the (NAO) The Greenland block being weak the storms are not going to pose a great risk of severe weather or thunderstorms for the Rockies or plains, but the thing is it is waves of these storms and they should weaken themselves out once battering California. The general path is north north east for all the activity from this monster storm

19 years in Bay Area and I have never heard such a powerful storm! Outages: 2,700 without power Peninsula, 6,000 South Bay, 2,000 North Bay.
